When you think of Nicole Mejia today, you think of her curvaceous figure and to-die-for body but did you know that Mejia wasn’t like this all through? Yes, as strange as it may seem, Mejia as a child struggled with her body image. She was bullied and teased for being overweight. What was worse was the fact that Mejia herself lacked a sense of self-esteem and self-worth. It was after completing high school that Mejia resolved to change all that. She adopted a healthier and positive lifestyle and started her training to getting fit and healthy. Interestingly, modelling wasn’t something that Mejia chose for herself; rather it was something she ventured into by chance. A friend of hers required a model for a photography portfolio and Mejia happily volunteered.

What started as a way to help her friend eventually became a career option for Mejia! She soon began shooting for local photographers and brands. Modelling gave Mejia a platform to let go of her self-conscious past and instead walk towards an empowering future. Following a successful career as a model, Mejia started her umbrella fitness company Fit and Thick in 2013. Through it, she motivates women from across the globe to have a positive outlook in life and strive for a healthy mind, body, and lifestyle. As a popular model and fitness expert, Mejia is also very famous on social media. She has more than 1.4 million followers on Instagram while her Twitter handle has more than 58K followers.

Nicole Mejia was born on November 18, 1988 in Pembroke Pines, Florida. She has three siblings, including a younger sister named Noella. She hails from a family of mixed Columbian and Italian descent. For Mejia, her father is the most important person in her life. His moral strength and persona give Mejia confidence and belief in herself. As a child, Mejia was plump and chubby and often became the subject of ridicule of many. The continuous bullying and teasing scarred her self-esteem and confidence and she felt terrible and heartbroken. Her struggle with her body image took a major turn when after high school she decided to do everything she could to change things for better, thus starting her journey towards being fit, healthy, and in shape. Mejia is a people’s person and very social in life. She loves travelling to new places. For Mejia, more than the destination, it is the company that matters. She has been quoted saying ‘I enjoy going anywhere new as long as I have people with me who are down for anything. My friends and I always travel in a ‘judgment-free zone’.’ Modelling apart, Mejia loves workout and dancing. A complete family person, she loves spending time with loved ones and enjoys having coffee and sushi. Turn offs for her include lies, fighting, pickup trucks, and banana-flavoured candy.
