Dance is in Gianna’s blood. Coming from a family of dancers where her grandmother, mother and aunts are all associated with the craft, Gianna started her formal training at the tender age of four.

She enrolled at The Abby Lee Miller Dance Company (ALDC) when she was 7, after having trained in the local small dance studios till then. All her life she aspired to be this famous dancer but life had other plans for her. She started assisting Abby at 16 years of age and her foray into choreography began.

She started enjoying giving dance lessons to kids alongside Abby and would work weekends all through the college days. Gradually, she evolved into this right-hand man of Abby Lee Miller and people started recognizing her in the dance circuit.

Her major claim to fame happened with ‘Dance Mom’ where she featured as a choreographer regularly. She was already involved in managing Abby’s affairs in the show, like warming the students up before performance and checking up on the music. She was asked by the producers to join as a choreographer, but it did not occur to her as the opportunity of a lifetime. Eventually the show went on to become a huge hit and Gianna became one of the most recognized choreographers of the show.

She is loved by the contestants, the moms and is a close confidante of Abby. She has taught and choreographed famous teen dancer and Teen Choice Awards winner, Maddie Zeigler. She has even choreographed music videos for singers like MackZ, Meghan Trainor, and Kendall Vertes. She got boatloads of accolades for her choreography in the Alexx Calise music video ‘Cry’.

Gianna herself was a competitive dancer before she took on choreography full time and has competed in a number of national platforms. She has quite a few titles under her belt.

Of all the genres, she loves to dance and choreograph the lyrical/contemporary style because she thinks is quite challenging to tell the story perfectly with graceful movements that will not distract the audiences from the music as well.

Gianna Martello was born on June 10, 1989 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She showed immense interest for dance from an early age. She planned to move to LA or New York to pursue a career as a dancer but fate had other designs. Upon her family’s persistence she enrolled into college, and earned a degree in advertising and public relations. She loves the aspect of marketing designs and currently designs all of ALDC’s promotional materials.

She has come a long way from teaching Dance 101 classes to little kids on the weekends between her own classes to taking on full time choreography responsibilities in the reality show. She is very close to Abby from their long association of 20 odd years and vehemently defends all allegations against Abby of being rude and moody.

She is extremely loyal and although currently she is famous enough to pave her own way in the big cities like LA and NYC, she has said that for the time being she is content being in Pittsburg near her family and ALDC, while having the chance to travel around the world for the dance reality show.

Gianna is a shy person who is still not very accustomed to the limelight. She prefers to stay backstage and being involved with the creative process of the dance rather than being right in front of the camera. She is the pacifier of the show, whom everybody turns to, right from the producers to the contestants.
