Childhood & Early Life

Mimi Rogers was born Miriam Spickler on 27th January 1956 in Coral Gables, Florida to couple Philip Spickler and Kathy Talent. Her father was a civil engineer, and her mother was into dance and drama.

Philip was a follower of scientology and Mimi was introduced to it during her childhood. The family relocated to different places around the world before they finally settled in Los Angeles, California.

As a child she had to move through different schools, but she did graduate at an early age of 14. Instead of taking formal college education, she became involved in writing and theater, and also studied acting with late American director and producer Milton Katselas.

Prior to becoming an actress, she had worked as a social worker and substance abuse counsellor for a period of six years in a hospital.

Career

Mimi Rogers started her television and film career in the early 1980s with the small roles of ‘Sandra Pauley’ in an American police drama series ‘Hill Street Blues’ (1981) and Corrina Girard in ‘Quincy M.E.’(1981). During her initial years of struggle, she stayed with American actress and comedian Kirstie Alley.

In 1982, she played the role of Margo Perina in one of the episodes of the top ranking American crime drama series ‘Magnum, P.I.’ starring Tom Selleck. She then appeared in various television series like ‘Divorce Wars: A Love Story’ (1982), ‘Hear No Evil’ (1982), and ‘Blue Skies Again’ (1983).

Her rise to fame started when she was cast in the American drama series ‘The Rousters’ (1983-84) and prime time soap ‘Paper Dolls’ (1984), where she played the role of Blair Fenton-Harper in more than a dozen episodes.

She played the role of Audrey in the American comedy film ‘Gung Ho’ (1986) alongside actor Michael Keaton. With her growing prominence, she started receiving leading roles in award nominated movies like ‘Street Smart’ (1987), where she played the role of Alison Parker.

Mimi Rogers was again offered a leading role in the romance crime thriller ‘Someone to Watch over Me’ (1987), where she played the role of Claire Gregory alongside actor Tom Berenger.

In 1990, she was offered the role of Carrie in the movie ‘The Palermo Connection’, a film that was based on a novel ‘Oublier Palerme’. She continued to play leading roles in movies like ‘Desperate Hours’ (1990), ‘The Doors’ (1991), and ‘Wedlock’ (1991).

She was cast in various hit films and TV series during the 1990s that included ‘Dark Horse’ (1992), ‘White Sands’(1992), ‘Monkey Trouble’ (1994), ‘Reflections on a Crime’(1994), ‘Full Body Massage’(1995), and ‘Weapons of Mass Distraction’(1997).

She played the role of Mrs. Kensington, Elizabeth Hurley’s mother in the first installment of the American spy action comedy film ‘Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery’ (1997).

She starred as Agent Diana Fowley in the science fiction drama series ‘The X-Files’ (1998-99), appearing in seven episodes with lead actors David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.

She played the role of Leonore Stern in the TV movie ‘The Devil’s Arithmetic’ (1999), based on a novel by Jane Yolen. That film was nominated for the Emmy Awards.

She played various roles in movies and television series in the ensuing years, some of them being ‘Seven Girlfriends’ (1999), ‘Common Ground’ (2000), ‘Cruel Intentions 2’ (2000),‘The Geena Davis Show’ (2000-01), and ‘Dawson’s Creek’(2003).

In 2004, she played the role of President Annie Hannigan in the critically acclaimed sitcom ‘Hope & Faith’.
