Childhood & Early Life
Louisa Jacobson Gummer was born on June 12, 1991, in Los Angeles, California, as the youngest daughter of Don Gummer and Meryl Streep, among four children comprising a son and three daughters. While her mother is a renowned actress, her father is a sculptor.
While her older brother, Henry Wolfe Gummer, is a musician, her two older sisters, Mamie Gummer and Grace Gummer, followed their mother into the world of acting.
Her maternal grandparents are Mary Wolf Wilkinson and Harry William Streep, Jr. and her paternal grandparents are Dorothy Gummer and William Adolph Gummer. She has mixed ancestral lineage including Swiss-German and German-English-Irish ancestry from her mother's side and Norwegian-German ancestry from her father's side.
When she was born, the family lived in a $3-million mansion in the affluent neighbourhood of Brentwood, Los Angeles in California. The family later relocated back to Connecticut.
Gummer studied at the Brooklyn, New York based independent school ‘Poly Prep Country Day School’. She then went on to complete her graduation majoring in psychology in 2013 from the private, co-educational, Liberal Arts College the ‘Vassar College’ located in Poughkeepsie, New York.
