Who is Fabolous?
John David Jackson, who is popularly known by his stage name Fabolous, is an American hip-hop recording artist and rapper. His career began while he was still in high school and he performed live on American record producer DJ Clue’s radio show. After being signed by DJ Clue to his record label ‘Desert Storm’, he released his debut album ‘Ghetto Fabolous’ which stood at the fourth position on the US Billboard 200. It included the hit singles ‘Young’n’ and ‘Can’t Deny It’. His next album ‘Street Dreams’ was also a success, selling over a million copies and peaking at the third position on the US Billboard 200. He continued to enjoy success over the years, releasing a succession of hit albums and singles. Despite having a well-established professional career, Fabolous’ personal life has not been an ideal one. He has had several brushes with the law and was once arrested for possessing an unlicensed gun. He was also accused of domestic violence by his partner.

Childhood & Early Life
Fabolous was born as John David Jackson on 18th November 1977 in New York City. He is of Dominican and African-American descent.
He started his career in hip hop music while he was still in high school. He was invited to rap on a music show by DJ Clue, who is an American record producer. Later he also performed on the New York City radio station ‘Hot 97’. He was eventually signed by DJ Clue to his record label ‘Desert Storm Records,’ following which he was featured on several of their mixtapes.
Singing Career
On September 11, 2001, Fabolous released his debut album ‘Ghetto Fabolous’. The album found commercial success and sold 140,000 copies in the first week. It also debuted at the fourth position on the US Billboard 200. It included two hit singles ‘Can’t Deny It’, which charted on the US Hot 100 at the 25th position, and ‘Young’n’ which charted at the 33rd position.
He released his second studio album ‘Street Dreams’ in 2003; it was an average success commercially. It reached the third position on the US Billboard 200, with sales of 185,000 copies in the first week. Its most successful singles were ‘Can’t Let You Go’ and ‘Into You,’ both peaking on the US Hot 100 at the 4th position, and also entering the charts in various other countries. The same year, he also released his first official mixtape named ‘More Street Dreams, Pt. 2: The Mixtape’.
His third album ‘Real Talk’ was released in 2004. Like his previous albums, it was a commercial success, charting at the 6th position on the US Billboard 200. It had sold more than 550,000 copies by the end of the year. The album featured the hit singles ‘Breathe’, which charted at the 10th position on the US Billboard Hot 100, and ‘Baby’ which charted at the 71st position on the same chart.
He next collaborated with Christina Milian on her song ‘Dip It Low’, from her second studio album. It charted at the 5th position on the US Billboard Hot 100, and also earned a nomination for the Grammy Award in the category of ‘Best Rap Collaboration’.
His next studio albums were ‘From Nothin’ to Something’, which was released in 2007, and ‘Loso’s Way’ which was released in 2009. Both the albums were commercially successful, the former peaking at the 2nd position on the US Billboard 200, and the latter peaking at the 1st position.
His album ‘The Young OG Project’ was released in 2014. With singles, such as ‘Lituation’, ‘We Good’ and ‘You Made Me’, the album reached the 12th position on the US Billboard 200.
His next album ‘Friday on Elm Street,’ in which he collaborated with American rapper Jadakiss, was released in 2017. It reached the 10th position on the US Billboard 200. It included tracks such as ‘Stand Up’, ‘Ground Up’ and ‘Principle’.
Film & TV Career
Fabolous made his film debut with a cameo role in the horror comedy film ‘Scary Movie 4’. Directed by David Zucker, the film was a huge commercial success. Made on a budget of $40 million, it earned more than four times its budget.
He played the lead role in the 2009 film ‘Loso’s Way: The Movie’. He was also the writer of the film. He reprised his role in its 2012 sequel ‘Loso’s Way 2: The Movie’, where he again served as the writer as well. He also made appearances in TV shows, such as ‘Wild N Out’ and ‘The Untitled Action Bronson Show’.
Major Works
“Real Talk’, Fabolous’ third studio album, can be considered one of his most successful works. Though it didn’t receive an enthusiastic response from the critics, the album performed well commercially, charting at the sixth position on the US Billboard 200. It included singles, such as ‘Baby’, ‘Can You Hear Me’, ‘Do the Damn Thang’ and ‘Breathe’. According to Billboard, the album had sold around 550,000 copies by the end of the year.
Another successful album in his career is ‘Loso’s Way’, which reached the first position on the US Billboard 200. The album was also received positively by the critics. It sold nearly 100,000 copies in its first week. It included hit singles, such as ‘My Time’, ‘Throw It in the Bag’ and ‘Everything, Everyday and Everywhere.’
Personal Life
Fabolous has been in a long-term relationship with Emily Bustamante. The couple has two sons: Johan and Jonas.
The relationship between the couple is a tumultuous one and Emily accused him of assaulting her in March 2018. He was arrested for domestic violence soon after.
