Career
Miss D started dancing at the age of 4. Her parents subsequently had her enrolled into the Angie Luke School of Dance where she spent years trying to perfect a wide range of dance forms including Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Ballet Point, Tap (Beginner and Advanced) and Belly Dance. As years went by, Miss D went on to participate in various dance competitions and got associated with reputable dance groups around Jackson. She was a member of ‘Eye of the Tiger Drill Team’ and Captain of the California State Dominguez Hills University Cheerleading Squad during 1989-1998.
After finishing high school, Miss D enrolled into Jackson State University to earn a degree in Criminal Justice. After graduating she went on to work for the city as a Recreation Aide and the Dance Instructor for its various programs in the north side.
During college, Miss D did a brief stint in adult film industry, but with much effort she left the past behind to start afresh.
In 2001, she established the Dancing Dolls Dance Studio within a small premise at the Pied Piper Playhouse in Jackson. From there began her long and arduous journey to fame and excellence.
After Dancing Dolls, Miss D launched the Grove Park Dancerettes in 2002, acted as the choreographer for the Callaway High School Chargettes in 2006, founded the Prancing Diamonds in 2007, and was elected the Vice President and Choreographer of the Jackson Association for Majorettes in 2009.
On August 23, 2010, she established the ‘Dollhouse Dance Factory’ and began the semester with 23 students. The Dollhouse Dance Factory became the house of Miss D’s Dancing Dolls, a dance troupe that has seen major success in competitive dancing and won major trophies in various age groups. Their slogan is “Dancing Dolls For Life” which is shortened as DD4L and features as sort of a logo for the team.
The success of the Dancing Dolls prompted television network Lifetime to conceive and execute a reality show based on them. The Show was titled ‘Bring It!’ and aired for the first time on March 5, 2014. The show depicts the Dancing Dolls compete against various other dance troupes like Divas of Olive Branch, the Prancing Tigerettes and the Purple Diamonds, and strive to prove their supremacy over other troupes. The program became an overnight success and Miss D became a household name. The reality show’s success lies in the fact that it has been consecutively renewed into 4 seasons.
Miss D’s fame has also translated into financial success as her earnings from the studio, the television networks, various endorsements and product features, take her net worth well up to 1.5 million US dollars.
