Childhood & Education

Yoon So-hee was born on 7th May 1993 in Stuttgart, Germany to an affluent family. During their early days in Germany, the family had a well-established business. But somehow, the business incurred losses and her father started working as a delivery man to make the ends meet. This also took a toll on their family and her parents’ marriage ended up in divorce while Yoon was in her fourth grade. This also affected her and her elder sister. The family then moved back to Seoul when Yoon was six years old.

Her father then started working as a professor in a technical university. Yoon inherited a strong academic mind from her father and was known as the topper in earlier grades. The sisters lived with their father, who trained his daughters in martial arts and compelled them to work out every morning. He also cultivated in them, healthy eating habits. This resulted in Yoon growing up faster than other kids. She was also healthier and more beautiful than most of her contemporaries. She also became increasingly good in sports, thanks to the physical training she received as a kid and was known as a bright student.

She had already appeared in an independent film at the age of 12 and expressed her desire to work in the entertainment industry. But her father knew her abilities and knew that she could do great academically and hence opposed her decision. Her mother also didn’t support Yoon, but her sister did, in whatever ways she could.

In 2011, she had already been enrolled into the prestigious KAIST University, which is known as one of South Korea’s most popular science and research universities. She studied molecular and chemical engineering at the college. She kept auditioning for roles in films and TV at the same time. When her first opportunity came in the form of a variety show, she took a leave of absence from her college and pursued her acting career.

Career

In 2016, she took a slightly unconventional turn in her career when she did two web dramas back to back, ‘Bong Soon - a Cyborg in Love’ and ‘Iron Lady’. She also appeared in a conventional web series ‘The Day After We Broke up’. Later that year, she featured in a film titled ‘Life Risking Romance’, a South Korean and Taiwanese co-production.

In 2017, she appeared in the South Korean mini drama series ‘Queen of the Ring’, a fantasy love story, in which she played one of the major supporting characters as Kang Mi-joo. However, next up was the biggest TV series of her life, with the meatiest role she had ever portrayed. She appeared in ‘The Emperor: Owner of the Mask’, a period drama set in a fictional land. However, the show only managed to achieve moderate ratings. But it became quite successful in the neighboring countries and Yoon tasted international prominence for the first time in her career.
