Childhood & Early Life

She was born on August 17, 1970, in Los Angeles, California, US, to English judge Thomas Townsend and African–American interior designer Anorene. She is of Yugoslavian descent from her father’s side. Her grew up with her sibling, Travis Townsend.

She graduated from the ‘Los Angeles County High School for the Arts’ in 1988.

Career

She began her career as an actor in 1985. That year, she featured as ‘Sara’ in the popular American sitcom ‘Diff'rent Strokes.’ She appeared in an episode named ‘Beauty Is in the Eye of Arnold,’ from its seventh season.

Over the next few years, she continued to appear in single episodes of several TV series. These include ‘Charles in Charge’ (1987), ‘The Bronx Zoo’ (1988), ‘Quantum Leap’ (1992), ‘Where I Live’ (1993), ‘Hangin' with Mr. Cooper’ (1995), and ‘Living Single’ (1995). She also featured in the TV movie ‘Divas’ (1995). Meanwhile, this ravishing diva became the winner of the ‘Miss Talented Teen California’ title in 1987.

Her early big-screen pursuits include her appearance in the Robert Townsend-directed musical drama ‘The Five Heartbeats.’ The movie released on March 29, 1991, and garnered moderate commercial success and mixed reviews from critics.

She portrayed the recurring role of ‘Melissa’ in four of the 22 episodes of the American sitcom ‘Grown Ups,’ which aired on ‘UPN,’ from August 1, 1999, to May 22, 2000. The 2000 comedy ‘Playing Mona Lisa,’ directed by Matthew Huffman, featured her as ‘Alice.’ The film, based on a play by Marni Freedman, had Alicia Witt, Johnny Galecki, Harvey Fierstein, Marlo Thomas, Elliott Gould, Brooke Langton, and Molly Hagan in starring roles.

The romantic comedy ‘Love Chronicles,’ written and directed by Tyler Maddox-Simms, which released on December 31, 2003, also featured Tammy. The film had Clifton Powell, Terrence Howard, Robin Givens, and LisaRaye McCoy in starring roles.
