Richard Camacho - Latin Pop Singer, Career and Facts

Richard Camacho was born on 22 January 1997, in Santo Domingo. Dominican Republic and spent the first few years of his life in the Central American republic before migrating to the US. He resided with his family in Bronx, New York City.

Camacho’s parents had three sons and he was the eldest with a younger twin named Yashua Camacho who also became a professional singer. He displayed a penchant for the performing arts when he was just three. His father, an acclaimed musician and his dancer mother, greatly encouraged him to hone his singing and dancing skills.

He and his younger brother, Yashua who shared his passion for music, spent a lot of time together fine-tuning their raw talent.

Richard and Yashua, when they were teenagers went together for auditioning in the opening season of ‘La Banda’ (The Band), a televised musical competition created by Ricky Martin and Simon Comwell.

‘La Banda’ is a Latin American singing competition conceptualized by Ricky Martin, internationally renowned singer, and Simon Phillip Comwell, British entrepreneur, album producer, philanthropist, and reality TV judge. Simon’s SYCO Entertainment, Ricky Martin, and ‘Saban Brands’ owner Haim Saban teamed up to stage the inaugural season of ‘The Band’ broadcasted on Univision’s TV channel.

The underlying objective behind staging the musical show was to pick and choose a handful of extraordinarily talented young singers who would join forces to form an iconic Latin pop band.

Yashua was eliminated in the 2nd round of the show that aired for the first time in 2015 but Richard sailed through to reach the ‘Middle Rounds’. Following the clearing of the Middle Rounds’ penultimate leg, Richard Camacho competed successfully to be selected as CNCO’s 2nd member from amongst 12 contestants.

The grand finale kicked off with pomp and gaiety where each and every finalist shared the dais with international singing sensation, Pitbull, crooning some of his top hits.

Richard impressed the judges by ably demonstrating that he was capable of singing any genre and is efficient in playing a few instruments as well as adept in dancing and composing music.

The quintet of Christopher Velez (Ecuador), Richard Camacho (Dominican Republic), Joel Pimentel (Mexico), Zabdiel de Jesus (Puerto Rico) and Erick Colon (Cuba) came together to form CNCO on 13 December 2015. The all-boys Latin American band, CNCO’s (CNCO means ‘five’ in Spanish) debut single, “Tan Facil” clambered to the no. 1 spot on Billboard’s Latin Airplay.

CNCO which soon entered into a recording deal with ‘Sony Music Latin’ label was hailed as the next big thing in the Latin American music industry. The newly constituted band performed live at Univision’s yearend farewell party in Times Square, NYC that was broadcasted throughout the US.

The Latin music band bagged several awards at 2016 Univision Youth Awards ceremony. CNCO also won numerous honors in the 2016 Latin American Music Awards presentation.

Richard Camacho has lent his vocal cords to many singles sung by CNCO including “So Easy”, “I Would Like”, “To Fall in Love”, and “Hundred” to name a few.

Richard Camacho was the 2nd finalist in the La Banda show to be chosen as a CNCO band member.

He sang the Sin Bandera’s track, “Enter My Life” for the La Banda audition.

He went on record by expressing that he would continue composing and recording songs with his younger twin brother Yashua if he was eliminated from La Banda.

Basketball is Camacho’s favorite sport while his food of choice is pizza.
