Who is Miranda Lambert?
Miranda Lambert is a well-known American Country Music singer and songwriter from Texas. Her father ran a private investigation agency with her mother and sang for a country rock band called ‘Contraband’. Young Miranda started singing for the ‘Texas Pride Band’ when she was in high school and was given an audition with Nashville Tennessee at the age of 16. However, she preferred country music to pop and took to playing the guitar and writing her own songs. She has six studio albums and one individual album to her credit. A two time Grammy Award winner, she has also won the Cover Girl ‘Fresh Face of Country Music Award’ and is the first female artist to win the Country Music Association Award for ‘Album of the Year’ twice. Miranda Lambert’s holds the record of winning the ACM Award for ‘Female Vocalist of the Year’ for eight consecutive years. Childhood & Early Life
Miranda Leigh Lambert was born on 10 November 1983 in Longview, Texas, USA to Rick and Beverly Lambert. Her father was a cop who played in a local country rock group called ‘Contraband’. She grew up in Lindale where her mother ran a private investigating agency that was later partnered by her father. She is of English, Irish and Native American decent.
Miranda entered her first country music talent show at the age of 10 and started professional singing while still in high school. She made her singing debut with the ‘Texas Pride Band’ and also sang for a house band in Reo Palm Isle, Longview, Texas. She was influenced by legends like Elvis Presley and Willie Nelson who also started their career in a house band.
She launched her professional career with her performance at the Jonnie High Country Music Revue in Arlington, Texas, after which she was given a recording session at Nashville Tennessee. However, she did not much care for the type of pop music offered to her and said that she was not ready to go into recording at that stage.
Her love for country music, which she grew up with in Texas, prompted her to ask her father to teach her how to play the guitar and soon she began writing her own songs. By 2002, she started performing country music at local restaurants and became part of the Texas country music scene with the full financial support of her parents.
Career
In 2003, she took part in the talent competition, ‘Nashville Star’, where she finished second runner-up. During her audition, she caught the attention of Tracy Gershon who later got her signed for a contract with Sony Records.
Her debut single, ‘Me and Charlie Talking’, which was a tale on puppy love, was co-written with her father and released through Epic Records in 2003. It became the lead song for her debut album titled ‘Kerosene’ which was released the next year. The album was listed at number one on the Billboard ‘Top Country Albums’ chart and was nominated for a Grammy Award. It also got a platinum certificate by RIAA for selling over one million copies.
She toured with Keith Urban, George Strait, Dierks Bentley and Toby Keith after the release of her first album and worked on her second album titled ‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’, which was released in May 2007. The album was announced as the ‘Album of the Year’ at the 2008 Academy of Country Music Awards.
Her third album, ‘Revolution’ was released in 2009 for which she wrote 11 out of the 15 tracks with fellow country star, Blake Shelton. The album’s second single ‘White Liar’ was her first number to reach the top 5 on the ‘US Billboard Hot Country Songs’ chart. She performed her new single ‘Dead Flowers’ at the 44th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards in April 2009.
In order to promote her album, she toured 22 cities with her show titled ‘Roadside Bars & Pink Guitars’ and performed at the Bonnaroo Music Festival. In 2011, she won a Grammy Award in the ‘Best Female Country Vocal Performance’ category for ‘The House That Built Me’.
Her fourth studio album, ‘Four the Record’ was released in November 2011. The album had five singles that reached number one on the charts. She also did 33 shows of her ‘Locked & Reloaded’ tour with Dierks Bentley during this period.
Miranda launched her girl group called ‘Pistol Annies’ that released their first single, ‘Hell on Heels’, in August 2011. Their album ‘Annie Up’ was released in 2013 and became a hit. Her fourth studio album titled ‘Platinum’ followed in 2014.
In March 2016, she made her first appearance outside USA and Canada when she toured England, Scotland and Ireland with Dwight Yoakam, Thomas Rhett and Ashley Monroe. Her sixth album, ‘The Weight of These Wings’ was released the same year.
She made her acting debut with NBCs legal drama ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’ in the episode titled ‘Father’s Show’ and has made a number of endorsements including ‘Cotton Inc’, for which she appeared with her song ‘Fabric of My Life’.
