Who is Isaac Lupien?
Isaac Lupien is a Canadian dancer, choreographer, and actor best known for his role as Eldon in the mockumentary teen-drama TV series ‘The Next Step’. He began his career quite early on. When he was only 11 months old, he was included in a dance performance. He started actively taking dance lessons at his parents’ studio at two years of age, albeit without complete devotion! He started getting serious at the age of 13, developing passion for more technical forms, such as jazz, ballet, and contemporary. As he grew older, his interests branched out towards tap, hip-hop, and tumbling as well. He received the bronze medal at the ‘2008 IDO World Championships’ in Riesa, Germany, and was the runner-up teen male dancer at ‘The 2011 Dance Awards’ in New York City. He won the senior VIP at the ‘Jump Dance Convention’ in 2012. Now he is a teacher and choreographer at the ‘Canadian Dance Company’, the studio ran by his parents, and one of most successful ones in Canada. He is also a faculty member at fellow dancer Trevor Tordjman’s ‘Raw Motion Dance’. Beside the show ‘The Next Step’, Lupien’s acting credits include the film ‘Flash of Genius’, which also starred Greg Kinnear.

Career
Even before Isaac Lupien landed his role on ‘The Next Step,’ he was already a renowned dancer and performance artist who has participated in, and won multiple international dance competitions including the title of the senior soloist at ‘Showstopper American Dance Championships’ in Myrtle Beach in 2013. He had also appeared in the ad campaigns for ‘Pillsbury Doughboy’, ‘KFC’, ‘Concerned Children’, and ‘Hess truck, to name a few. He had worked with Deanne Bray in the pilot episode of her crime-drama show, ‘Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye’.
His first role in movies came about with the 2008 release ‘Flash of Genius’. Directed by Marc Abraham, the film is a biographical tale based on a ‘New Yorker’ article by John Seabrook published in 1993, about the legal battle between American inventor Robert Kearns and the ‘Ford Motor Company’. Lupien played Bob Jr., the son of Robert and Phyllis Kearns (played by Kinnear and Lauren Graham respectively).
Lupien. Like the rest of the cast of ‘The Next Step’, was a competitive dancer before he was an actor, and while he did start acting at four, he stopped when he turned 13 to focus on his dancing. After multiple rounds of auditions and subsequent selections, the show began filming on July 12, 2012 in Toronto, Canada. The pilot aired on the ‘Family Channel’ on March 8, 2013. The second season premiered on March 7, 2014, third on March 16, 2015, and fourth on February 15, 2016. The show was renewed for a fifth season in March 2016, and premiered on May 26, 2017.
Lupien has described his character on the show, Eldon, as a “dance nerd”. Though he can be perceived as clingy, awkward, and condescending, he is also an extremely dedicated and talented dancer, arguably the best in the studio. One of the original cast members of the show, Lupien portrayed Eldon as part of the main cast till season 4. In season 5, Eldon is a recurring character.
He has appeared in the documentary ‘The Next Step Live: The Movie’ (2015), a film based on the first nationwide tour by the cast. He is playing the role of Isaiah in the upcoming film ‘Jazz Hands’.
Personal Life
Isaac Lupien was born on March 30, 1995 in Oakville, a suburban town in southern Ontario, Canada, to parents Allain and Dawn Lupien. His father, in his early career, was part of Dawn’s mother’s music studio in Simcoe, Ontario, ‘The Dot Blakely Dance Studio’. Later on, the husband-and-wife pair set up the ‘Canadian Dance Academy’ after Dot Blakely retired in 1985. Isaac has three sisters, Tabitha, Samantha, and Lindsay. He received his high school degree from ‘Oakville Trafalgar High School’. Currently, he resides in Toronto.
