Childhood & Early Life

Amy Dumas was born on April 14, 1975, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, US.

She changed a lot of schools during her early life. After completing high school from Lassiter High School, she attended Georgia State University, majoring in education. However, she dropped out of it in 1993.

Career

Amy Dumas’ interest in wrestling began after she watched Rey Mysterio Jr wrestle on an episode of World Championship Wrestling. She was so enticed by the sport that she travelled to Mexico to learn more about it.

While in Mexico, she trained under numerous wrestlers. She then made several appearances with the Empresa Mexicana de la Lucha Libre. Upon returning to US, she started working as a valet on independent circuit.

In Maryland Championship Wrestling, Amy Dumas first took the ring name Angelica. She then made an appearance at the NWA Mid-Atlantic where Matt and Jeff Hardy offered to train her.

In 1999, she made her debut at the Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW). There, Amy Dumas first met Dory Funk Jr, who offered to train her at his wrestling school, The Funkin' Conservatory. In August 1999, she was one of the 24 graduates from the school. She returned to ECW making her final appearance on October 1999.

On November 1, 1999, Amy Dumas was signed to WWF developmental deal. She was given the ring name Lita and was paired with Luchador Essa Rios. Together with Rios, Lita made her debut on February 13, 2000 for an episode of Sunday Night Heal. Later, Rios and Lita separated following a feud after which Lita was joined by Matt and Jeff Hardy. The trio formed Team Xtreme.

As a member of Team Xtreme, Amy Dumas became the only female to ever be physically involved in a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match in WWF. She then began a feud with WWF Women's Champion Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley. During an episode of Raw on August 21, 2000, Lita defeated Stephanie with a moonsault to take home her maiden Women's Championship title.

She successfully defended her title for 73days before finally losing out to Ivory in a four way match on an episode of SmackDown! Her efforts to regain the title went in vain as she lost to Ivory at Survivor Series, Rebellion

Her feud with Dean Malenko began in early 2001. She defeated him in a singles bout on an episode of Raw. By mid-2001, she joined hands with Trish Stratus to combat Stacy Keibler and Torrie Wilson. On July 22, 2001 Amy Dumas and Stratus successfully defeated Keibler and Wilson in the first ever tag team bra and panties match by stripping their opponents naked. Later, they teamed with Jacqueline and feuded with Keibler, Wilson, Ivory, and Mighty Molly in a six pack challenge.

In February 2002, she returned to WWF television and resumed her pursuit of clutching a WWF Women Championship title. She made her in-ring debut in March at WrestleMania X8 against Stratus and then reigning champion Jazz, who pinned her down.

Amy Dumas’ chase for the Championship title was yet again interrupted following a major mishap which caused three cracks in her vertebrae. After being operated, she spent the rest of the year rehabilitating, making sporadic appearances as a commentator.

She returned to the ring after seventeen months, in September 2003, for an episode of Raw. A year later, she competed in the women’s division. She won the battle royal to become the number one contender for the Women’s Championship.

Amy Dumas reunited with Matt Hardy when the latter helped her from an attack by Kane. She formed a team with Hardy. Kane, who couldn’t bear the union, kidnapped Amy and gave her a title shot at Bad Blood which she lost to Trish Stratus.

Following her loss to Stratus, Amy Dumas broke the news of her pregnancy. What came as a shocker was the fact that whilst everyone including Hardy thought it to be his child, it turned out that Kane was the father. Hardy and Kane met at a ‘Till Death Do US Part’ match according to which Amy would marry the winner. Kane successfully defeated Hardy and went on to marry Amy.

Amy Dumas’ disapproval of Kane was evident from the fact that despite being married to Kane, she thwarted him during his matches, thus aiding his opponents. In September, during a match against Gene Snitsky, Kane accidently fell on Amy causing her miscarriage.

Post miscarriage, Amy Dumas returned to the women's division in November 2004. Having been ridiculed by Stratus during her pregnancy, Amy after her comeback challenged Stratus to a Women's Championship match. On the December 9, 2004 in the main event of Raw, she defeated Stratus to win her second WWE Women's Championship title. The match went on to become one of the best Women's Championship match in WWE history.

The happiness and joy of Amy Dumas’ much talked about title victory, however, did not last long. Just a month later, Stratus defeated Amy, thus ending her second reign as Women's Champion on January 9, 2005. Amy Dumas, who was injured in the match, could not return to challenge the Women’s Championship title at Wrestlemania 21 as she had not fully reccovered.

In March 2005, she returned to WWE television as a mentor to Christy Hemme. Despite her training, Hemme was pinned down by Stratus at WrestleMania 21. A personal feud between Stratus and Amy resurfaced involving the two in a number of brawls in the ring. She knocked out Stratus with her crutches

In May 2005, Amy Dumas emerged as a villain. Her relationship with Kane ended as she helped Edge defeat him in the finals of the Raw Gold Rush Tournament. Later, she also revealed about faking her knee injury. Next, she helped Edge win a match against Hardy.

In August 2006, shewon her third Women's Championship in an episode of Raw, defeating Mickie James. However, she lost the title to rival Trish Stratus, at Unforgiven in Stratus's retirement match. Post Stratus’ retirement, she later regained the vacant title in November after defeating Mickie James.

Amy announced her retirement in November 2006, stating that the match at Survivor Series would be the last match of her career. Playing against Mickie James, she not just lost the match but her Women’s title as well.

Post retirement, in 2007, she made her debut for United Wrestling Federation (UWF) serving as a special guest referee for a match between Christy Hemme and April Hunter. She then made her in-ring debut with Jerry Lynn, pinning a successful bout against Austin Starr and Christy Hemme. Later, Amy Dumas made her debut for Family Wrestling Entertainment as a special guest referee.

Amy Dumas did not let go off WWE completely and returned sporadically. She teamed up with her arch rival, Trish Stratus, for a match against Jillian Hall. She also made a reunion with her former husband Kane. On the 1000th episode of Raw in July 2012, she defeated Heath Slater in a no disqualification, no countout match with the help from the WWE legends.

Apart from wrestling, Amy Dumas formed the punk rock band. ‘The Luchagors’, in 2006. The band released their self-titled debut CD on September 11, 2007.

Personal Life & Legacy

Amy Dumas’ personal life has gained quite a lot of attention. She first was in a relationship with Hardy. Their chemistry first sizzled in the ring in a match thus starting their on-screen relationship into real-life romance.

In 2004, Amy Dumas revealed about her pregnancy. However, what shocked everyone including Hardy the most was the fact that the child wasn’t Hardy’s but Kane’s. Hardy and Kane met for a match in which whoever won would eventually marry Amy. Kane successfully defeated Hardy and went on to marry Amy. However, unhappy with her marriage, Amy’s disapproval was openly visible as she aided Kane’s opponents during his matches.

A miscarriage followed by a divorce finally ended her relationship with Kane. She then was romantically involved with Edge. However, this too ended following her retirement.
