Stephanie Sigman - Mexican Women, Timeline and Childhood

Stephanie Sigman took a bold move at the age of 16 by relocating to Mexico City to pursue a career in modeling. She also took acting classes for three years, but was hesitant of an acting career at the beginning. However, she enjoyed her first time on the sets so much that she decided to pursue acting professionally. She subsequently acted in the 2006 short film ‘Con lujo de detalle’ and appeared on Mexican television shows.

She made her film debut with the 2010 Mexican movie, ‘Rio de Oro’. In 2011, she earned praise from critics for portraying Laura Guerrero in the Mexican crime drama film, ‘Miss Bala’. She moved to Los Angeles in 2013 and started appearing in American films and television shows. In 2015, she appeared as Valeria Vélez, the mistress of the protagonist and drug kingpin Pablo Escobar, in the critically acclaimed Netflix web series, ‘Narcos’. The same year, she landed her most iconic role as the Bond girl Estrella in the James Bond film, ‘Spectre’, and joined the illustrious list of famous actresses appearing as Bond girls over the history of the franchise. She has made a permanent place in the hearts of Bond fans all over the world.

Stephanie Sigman was subjected to racial discrimination following her audition for the reality television contest, ‘America’s Next Top Model’. The other contestants not only bullied her, but also thought she should not be allowed to participate on the show for her Mexican heritage. However, what they did not know was that she had already earned American citizenship through her American father. While the producers liked her, she decided to leave the show to avoid the company of the other contestants.

Since she was child, Stephanie Sigman became obsessed with being on time and is known in the media for her punctuality as well as honesty. However, she feels that sometimes honesty may not be the best policy in the showbiz. She has faced situations in which her honesty gave her a hard time as people often want to hear things they like, rather than the truth.

She considers herself an artist first and foremost, and wants to portray strong characters, working with directors she admires. If she doesn’t feel a connection with the character while reading the script, or doesn’t feel passionately about the project, she doesn’t take up the role. She is a good salsa dancer and learned hip-hop dance after relocating to America. She is interested in boxing and has a trainer to practice with three hours a day.

Interestingly, after applying for the audition of the movie ‘Spectre’, she fell sick and could not go in for the audition. Instead, she shot a clip at her own house, with the help of a friend, and sent the tape for the audition. She was eventually called in to have a chat with the director of the film, Sam Mendes, who confirmed that she had been selected for the role and would require to move to London to shoot for the film.

Stephanie Michelle Sigman was born on February 28, 1987, in Ciudad Obregón, Sonora, Mexico, to Lee Sigman, a Kansas-born scout for New York Yankees baseball team, and his Mexican wife, Esthela Conde. Her father fell in love with her mother during a field trip to Mexico, but neither knew each other’s language.

As a child, she regularly visited baseball stadiums with her father and her brothers. She later moved to Mexico City to become a model. She is an ardent fan of veteran Hollywood actor, Morgan Freeman, and would like to work with director Quentin Tarantino in the future. According to reports, she is currently in a relationship with director and photographer Brian Andrew Mendoza.
