Rocky Lynch is an American singer, songwriter, and musician, who is best known for being the lead guitarist of the rock band 'R5'. He is a part of the band along with his two brothers Riker and Ross, his sister Rydel, and their family friend Ellington Ratliff. He is one of the founder members of the band and writes most of the lyrics for their songs, along with his brothers. He has penned the majority of the lyrics of their most successful album 'Sometime Last Night'. He also acts as a back-up vocalist for the group. Known as "the quiet one" for his calm demeanor, he lets his guitar and his lyrics speak for himself. While he has not been a regular cast of any television show like his brothers Riker and Ross, he has appeared on TV a number of times with his band R5 as musical guest. Childhood & Early Life
Rocky Mark Lynch was born on November 1, 1994, in Littleton, Colorado, to Stormie and Mark Lynch. He is the third child of his parents and has an older brother Riker, an older sister Rydel and two younger brothers Ross and Ryland. His brother Riker named him after the Colorado Rockies.
The Lynch siblings grew up listening to the music of Bruce Springsteen, INXS and Michael Jackson. As a result, they have been singing since they were very young. They later attended Artistic Fusion Dance Academy in Colorado, where they learned to sing and dance. Rocky was influenced by the rock band 'The Script'.
He and his siblings would often put up shows in their basement to entertain family members. They would perform songs by Michael Jackson and *NSYNC, and ask everyone for at least a dollar for the show.
Rocky learnt to play the guitar all by himself by watching 'Fall Out Boy' videos. Known as the 'Musical Genius', he later taught Riker how to play bass and Ross how to play the guitar.
He started writing songs during his early teen years. Rocky is also one of the main writers of their family band, along with Riker and Ross, apart from being the lead guitarist.
The family relocated to California in 2008, after his brother Riker decided to pursue an acting career. He and his siblings started training at a dance studio called the Rage, where they met Ellington Ratliff, who would later join their band as the drummer.
Career
Rocky Lynch is one of the key founders of the band 'R5'. Along with his siblings, he started to jam in their living room in early 2009. When they learnt that their new friend Ellington Ratliff can play the drums, they invited him to the band and named it 'R5'. They had their first show in June that year.
In 2009, they created a YouTube channel and started a web series, 'R5 TV'. The series focused on their day-to-day lives and documented the early days of the band. The same year, Rocky also appeared on the TV show 'So You Think You Can Dance' as part of the 'Rage Boyz Crew'.
On March 9, 2010, the band released their first five-track EP titled 'Ready Set Rock'. The EP was self-released and did not have the backing of any major brand. However, the band later removed the EP after Ross was selected for the role of Austin Moon on Disney channel series 'Austin & Ally'.
In 2010, Rocky Lynch played a small role in the short film 'NASA: Exploration Space - Explorers Wanted'. Later, in 2013, he appeared in the episode 'Get Down on It' of the TV series 'Wedding Band' as Just'a Krush Member.
R5 was signed by Hollywood Records in April 2012. In May, they started their debut tour, the 'West Coast Tour', and in December, they went on their second tour, the 'East Coast Tour'. In late 2012, they collaborated with a bunch of other artists on the charity single 'Make Some Noise' for Family Channel's philanthropic campaign 'Stand Up'.
On February 19, 2013, they released the EP 'Loud', containing four songs. On the day of its release, the EP peaked at number 7 on the iTunes chart on overall sales and ranked 3rd on the Pop albums chart.
The band released their debut album 'Louder' on September 24, 2013. The album surpassed their debut EP and ranked at number 2 on the iTunes chart. It was also named a 'chart-topper' on the iTunes 'End of the Year' albums list.
R5 members embarked on a worldwide tour in late 2013 to support their debut album 'Louder'. For over six months, they held shows in various venues throughout Asia, Europe, Central America, Canada and United States.
The third EP of the band, 'Heart Made Up on You', was released on July 22, 2014. The EP contained the songs 'Heart Made Up on You', 'Things Are Looking Up', 'Easy Love', and 'Stay With Me', all of which were received with positive reviews.
On October 22, 2014, Rocky Lynch and his band performed 'Heart Made Up on You' at We Day ceremony. They later made a guest appearance on an episode of the television series 'Violetta' and performed the song again.
Between 2014 and 2015, he appeared in a number of TV shows as part of the band R5. A few of the shows that had him as a guest musician include 'Ellen: The Ellen DeGeneres Show', 'Teens Wanna Know', 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!', 'Good Morning America' and 'Live! with Kelly'.
