Childhood & Early Life
Rebel Melanie Elizabeth Wilson was born on 2 March 1980 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Her childhood was very unconventional, as her parents, who were both dog handlers, used to travel around the country to sell canine products.
Wilson has two sisters, Liberty and Annachi, and a brother, Ryot. Though she used to be quite shy as a child, she later started observing people keenly, which helped her develop her skills in comedy.
Wilson attended Tara Anglican School for Girls. After completing high school in 1997, she studied at the University of New South Wales. Later she studied at the Australian Theatre for Young People, after which her career in acting began.

After completing her studies at the Australian Theatre for Young People, Rebel Wilson went to New York, on a scholarship funded by Nicole Kidman. After gaining public attention for her stage works, she began her career on television in the Australian TV series ‘Pizza’, playing a girl gang-leader. Her first film was ‘Fat Pizza’, released in 2003, which was based upon the same TV series.
She played various characters in the Australian TV series ‘The Wedge’, which ran from 2006 to 2007, covering two seasons. Over the next few years, she appeared in several other TV shows, such as ‘Bogan Pride’ (2008), ‘Monster House’ (2006), ‘City Homicide’ (2009), and ‘Rules of Engagement’ (2010).
