In 2012, Rebel Wilson got into a relationship with Matt Lucas, her co-star in the film ‘Bridesmaids’. Though they eventually broke up, they lived together for three years till 2015.

Rebel Melanie Elizabeth Wilson was born on 2 March 1980 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Her childhood was very unconventional, as her parents, who were both dog handlers, used to travel around the country to sell canine products.

Wilson has two sisters, Liberty and Annachi, and a brother, Ryot. Though she used to be quite shy as a child, she later started observing people keenly, which helped her develop her skills in comedy.

Wilson attended Tara Anglican School for Girls. After completing high school in 1997, she studied at the University of New South Wales. Later she studied at the Australian Theatre for Young People, after which her career in acting began.

After completing her studies at the Australian Theatre for Young People, Rebel Wilson went to New York, on a scholarship funded by Nicole Kidman. After gaining public attention for her stage works, she began her career on television in the Australian TV series ‘Pizza’, playing a girl gang-leader. Her first film was ‘Fat Pizza’, released in 2003, which was based upon the same TV series.

She played various characters in the Australian TV series ‘The Wedge’, which ran from 2006 to 2007, covering two seasons. Over the next few years, she appeared in several other TV shows, such as ‘Bogan Pride’ (2008), ‘Monster House’ (2006), ‘City Homicide’ (2009), and ‘Rules of Engagement’ (2010).

In 2012, she appeared in films, such as ‘Bachelorette’, a romantic comedy directed by Leslye Headland, ‘Struck By Lightning’ a comedy-drama, directed by Brian Dannelly, and ‘Pitch Perfect’, a musical comedy film, directed by Jason Moore. The same year, she also played a voice role in the popular animated adventure movie ‘Ice Age: Continental Drift’. Based on the film, a game was also released, where Wilson reprised her role.

In 2013, she appeared in the American comedy show ‘Super Fun Night’. She also appeared in the black comedy crime film ‘Pain & Gain’, in a supporting role. She hosted the 2013 MTV Movie Awards as well.

In 2015, she appeared in ‘Pitch Perfect 2’, sequel to the 2012 movie ‘Pitch Perfect’. Directed and produced by Elizabeth Banks, the film was a huge commercial success. A sequel is set to be released in 2017, where Wilson will be continuing her role.

'Pizza', an Australian TV series, that aired on the SBS TV network, was the first work in Wilson’s career. The show, which covered themes like ethnicity, stereotypes, sex, illicit drugs, etc., aired from the year 2000 to 2007. Wilson joined the show in 2003 and played the role of Toula, a girl gang-leader who is obsessed with eating. The show won the ‘Australian Screen Sound Guild’ Award in 2004, for ‘Best Achievement in Sound for a Television Program’. It also received several other award nominations.

In 2008, Rebel Wilson appeared in ‘Monster House’, an Australian comedy series, which was broadcast on the Nine Network. Starring actors, such as Celia Ireland, Travis Cotton, Rebel Wilson, and Jody Kennedy, the series aired for only one season, covering ten episodes.

'Pitch Perfect' was a popular 2012 American musical comedy film, where Wilson appeared in a supporting role, playing a character named Patricia. Directed by Jason Moore, the film also starred actors Anna Kendrick, Skylar Astin, Adam DeVine, and Anna Camp. Loosely adapted from Mickey Rapkin’s non-fiction book of the same name, the film was a huge commercial success. It mostly received positive reviews. It won several awards including the Teen Choice Awards and American Music Awards, as well.

Wilson played a voice role in the popular animated adventure film ‘Ice Age: Continental Drift’. The film, which was the fourth installment of the Ice Age series, was released on 13 July 2012. Directed by Steve Martino and Michael Thurmeier, the film was a huge commercial success, and became the highest grossing animated film of the year. It received mostly mixed reviews. A sequel ‘Ice Age: Collision Course’, was released in July 2016
