Nydia Stone - Cuban Women, Timeline and Facts

After her family moved from Cuba to the United States, Nydia Stone began working professionally as a model and posed for local advertisements and marketing campaigns. While she worked successfully as a model for a few years, she gradually discovered her passion for photography and spent her savings to purchase a good camera so that she can experiment with it.

She eventually made the shift from in front of the camera to behind it within a short period of time and began taking up small assignments for photoshoots for individual clients and events. Later, she was able to bag several photography assignments for reporting as well. As a news photographer, she worked on a number of political campaigns, including President Ronald Reagan’s campaign for the 1980 election. Since she became romantically involved with political consultant Roger Stone, both of them have surfaced on the media from time to time for diverse reasons.

Nydia Stone was born as Nydia Bertran on May 8, 1946 in Cuba. Nydia's father served as a Cuban diplomat before Fidel Castro took over power in the country. Her early childhood was spent in an affluent part of the country where she studied in prestigious schools. However, after communist rule was established in the country under Fidel Castro's leadership, in 1959, her father decided to move to the United States with the family. After relocating to the USA, she started working instead of going back to school.

Nydia Stone first met Roger Stone during one of President Ronald Reagan’s campaigns where she was working as a photographer. Both of them were previously married once; Roger was married to Anne Wesche from 1974 to 1990, while Nydia was also in a short-lived marriage prior to beginning her photography career. They were immediately attracted to each other and eventually got married in Las Vegas in 1992.

Nydia Stone and her husband, Roger Stone, graced the pages of tabloids, as well as mainstream media, after they got entangled into a controversy in 1996. 'The National Enquirer' had reported that Roger, 44 at the time, and Nydia, 48, had placed racy advertisements and pictures in the September issue of 'Local Swing Fever' magazine, and on a website, to seek sexual partners for both of them. The advertisement, which was paid with Nydia’s credit card, described the couple as "Hot, insatiable lady and her handsome body builder husband, experienced swingers, seek similar couples or exceptional muscular . . . single men." It featured Nydia in a black negligee, which her husband later claimed was from a professional photoshoot in 1986, when she was working as a model. His own bare-chested photo, according to him, was taken for a 1993 bodybuilding contest.

Roger had denied the allegations that they were involved in publishing the advertisements in a two-page report that pointed towards "an acrimonious divorce" five years ago and put the blame on an unnamed "sick, disgruntled" person, who had been placing steamy and suggestive photos of him and his wife on mate-swapping websites for several years. He later claimed that a domestic employee, whom he had discharged for substance abuse, was the perpetrator as he had access to his computer and post-office box key. Nevertheless, Roger had to resign from his post as a consultant on Senator Bob Dole's campaign for president.

More than a decade later, 'The New Yorker' published an article on Roger Stone titled 'The Dirty Trickster', in which Roger admitted that the advertisements were authentic and the reason why he had denied it at the time was that his grandparents were still alive. Often criticized for playing dirty political tricks, the couple was identified by some to be Lucy Ramirez and the 'unknown man' with the envelope in connection to the Bill Burkett memo in March 2004. More recently, she spoke up in support of her husband after Twitter suspended his account in October 2017 following his personal attacks on a number of CNN personalities reporting on Robert Mueller’s Russian investigation.
