Childhood & Early Life
Robbie Williams was born to Janet and Peter Williams in Stroke-on-Trent. His parents divorced while Robbie was only three years old. He has a sister named Sally.
He studied at Mill Hill Primary School and pursued his high school education at St. Margaret Ward's Roman Catholic School in Tunstall. As a child, he was extremely mischievous and was considered the trouble-maker in his school. He also failed in his high school examination.
In his early teens, he performed minor roles for Stoke-on-Trent Theatre Company and had even made minor appearances in Brookside, a UK television soap opera.
He quit school at the age of 16 and unwillingly, took the job of a salesperson as he needed to earn his livelihood.
Career
His music career commenced in 1990, when his mother Janet, made him attend an audition for a new boy band, ‘Take That’. Once he was selected, his music career took off.
He earned great recognition as a singer and dancer through ‘Take That’ and worked with the group for five years. He finally left the band in 1995 as he wanted to earn his place in the music industry as a solo artist.
In 1996, he released the single, ‘Freedom’, a cover of George Michael’s song. The song rose to the number two position in the UK singles chart.
The same year, he collaborated with the Guy Chambers, a songwriter and producer and released his first single ‘Old Before I Die’, which was ranked number two on the UK music chart.
He released his debut album, ‘Life Thru A Lens’, in September 1997. The single ‘Angels’, was certified platinum by the BPI and the album became a best-seller in the United Kingdom.
With the release of his second album ‘I’ve Been Expecting You’, Williams established himself as the biggest-selling artist in UK by 1998. One of the singles of the album, ‘Millennium’, became a huge hit.
With the aim of expanding to the American market, he entered into a contract with Capitol Records, a part of EMI in 1999 and released the album ‘The Ego Has Landed’.
In 2002, he broke his official tie from Guy Chambers, his long-time collaborator after the release of his album ‘Escapology’.
