Dave Coulier - Voice Actors, Career and Family

He was born on September 21, 1959 in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. His father was a foreman and his mother was an interior decorator. He was the third of their five children.

At an early age, he was influenced by both of his grandmothers and used to impersonate his family members and relatives.

He graduated from Notre Dam High School, an all boys Catholic School in Harper Woods, Michigan in 1977. He was a hockey enthusiast and performed mimicry of his teachers and principal in front of his friends, which also won him a reward from the school authorities.

He used to write and perform comedy gags in the school along with his friend Mark Cendrowski. He became friends with Tim Allen, a comedian, when he used to perform stand-up comedy at Detroit’s Comedy Castle.

After graduation, he enrolled at the University of Michigan for a short time. He left it in his freshman year to pursue his dream of becoming a comedian.

After his graduation in 1977, he went to Los Angeles in search of an opportunity to become a comedian. In a year, he became a regular at the Comedy Store.

He got his first voice-over work at the Hanna Barbera Studios, where he sent a self-made comedy sketch along with his voice-over and was hired within a week.

Once, he started his work as a voice over artist, he made a move forward towards the acting career. He got a part in Cheech and Chong’s ‘Things Are Tough All Over’ and also landed some character roles in the TV show ‘Newhart’ along with the chance to work as a stand-up comedian.

He worked as the host of the comedy series ‘Out of Control’ on Nickelodeon from 1984–86. His signature catchphrase ‘Cut it out’ became a cult favorite of viewers through this show.

In 1987, he got the role of ‘Joey Gladstone’ in the ABC’s sitcom ‘Full House’. He portrayed the character from 1987-95, until the show was cancelled.

He also performed extensive voice works for many shows including ‘The Muppet Babies’, ‘The Real Ghostbusters’, ‘Scooby and Scrappy-Doo’, ‘The Jetsons’, ’Rude Dog and the Dweebs’, ‘Detention’ and ‘Teen Titans’.

In 1997, he also acted in CBS’s ‘George and Leo’ and hosted shows such as ‘America’s Funniest People’ and ‘Opportunity Knocks’.

He also appeared in some movies, such as, ‘The Thirteenth Year’ (1999), ‘The Even Stevens Movie’ (2003) and a Nickelodeon movie ‘Shredderman Rules’ (2007).

In 2000, he founded a children’s entertainment company, F3 Entertainment. He also made TV appearances in reality shows such as ‘The Surreal Life’ (2004) and ‘Skating With Celebrities’ (2006).

From 2005 to 2008 he lent his voice for the show ‘Robot Chicken’ and in 2009, for the animated series ‘Bob & Doug’. In the recent years, he made TV appearances on shows such as ‘How I Met Your Mother’, ‘America’s Funniest People’ and ‘America’s Most Talented Kid’.

His most notable work is that of playing the character of ‘Joey Gladstone’ in the ABC’s 1987 sitcom ‘Full House’ alongside Bob Saget. It earned him a great deal of respect in the appreciation for his work.

He voiced the characters of ‘Baby Animal’, ‘Baby Bunsen’, ‘Bean Bunny’ and ‘Uncle Statler and Waldorf’ on the animated series ’The Muppet Babies’ from 1986 to 1991, which is one of his most significant works as a voice over artist.

In 1990 he married Jayne Modean, an actress in the famous sitcom, ‘Full House’. They were blessed with a son, Luc, but got divorced in 1992.

After the divorce, he dated Alanis Morissette, an upcoming singer but broke up with her after some time. He later shared that he could be the inspiration behind her famous song “You Oughta Know”.

In 2005, he started dating Melissa Bring, a producer and photographer. They married on July 2, 2014 in Montana.

He is a private pilot and flies a Beechcraft B35. He supports AOPA foundation to promote safe flying and being an avid ice hockey fan, participates in celebrity games from time to time.
