Justin's father, who was very optimistic that computers will revolutionize the future, bought every new version of computer almost as soon as it was made available for purchase, starting with an Atari personal computer in 1981. Growing up with computers, he shared the same fascination about computers like his father.

After graduating from college in June 2000, he took up a job at CISCO Systems in Santa Clara. He later completed his master's degree in Business and started selling stuffs on eBay. During this time, he came across toy stuffed animals from 'Webkinz' and set up a blog about Webkinz to see if anyone would visit, but was overwhelmed by the positive response. He was initially running a bunch of Insiders all with their separate channels, but eventually merged them into one channel titled 'Insiders Network'.

He joined YouTube in December 2011 to complement his blog, but his voice became so popular among his fans that YouTube videos featuring him talking soon became the focal point. He then changed the name of his channel to Thinknoodles, which was inspired by his favorite restaurant's slogan, "Think Noodles".

Justin Watkins was allergic to many things since he was a child and was also diagnosed with chronic severe asthma. He had to use inhalers, daily medicines and the nebulizer three times a day. Embarrassed about his health issues, he became shy and reclusive, often trying to find excuses to go to the bathroom to use his inhaler without anyone noticing. When he was in the fifth grade, his family moved to Indonesia due to his father's job. While initially exited to visit a new country, he found it difficult to make new friends there. However, he eventually made three close friends, but they soon became interested in sports. While his health issues had gotten better at this point, his growth was delayed because of all the medications, which made it difficult for him to participate in sports. He lost his friends again after his father was transferred back to the US when he was in the 10th grade, following which they settled in Northern California. He had his final asthma attack during his senior year, for which he had to be rushed to the hospital right after taking the SAT examination. Nevertheless, he did well in the examination and started college with a clean slate, leaving behind his health issues.

Justin Andrew Watkins was born on May 30, 1977, in Texas, USA. When he was two years old, his parents had a daughter. He was very fond of his sister when they were young, but the two grew apart during their high school years. However, they later became very close again after she followed him to the same university. During the time his sister was born, the family got their first dog named Missy, but it ran away a few years later. He and his sister found out much later that their parents had given away the dog to another family.

He is married to Rachelle, the cousin of one of his friends, whom he first met during his second year in college. They started dating shortly after, despite the fact that he lived in California and she in New York. She later moved to Boston to attend college. During this time he used to fly regularly to meet his girlfriend, and was on the last American Airlines flight from Boston to California on September 10, 2001, narrowly missing the doomed flights the next day. He immediately decided to move to Boston with her. They moved back to New York after she completed her studies and enrolled into a medical school there. They adopted a golden retriever puppy named Kopi which frequently appears on his channel. They got married on a beach after she graduated from the medical school.
