Pixie Lott - Singer-songwriter, Life Achievements and Childhood

Pixie was born on 12 January, 1991 in Bromley, London. She was raised in Petts Wood and Bickley, along with her brother and sister.

Her nickname, Pixie, was given by her mother as she was cute and dainty when she was young. She was a choir member at her primary school.

When Pixie turned five, she was sent to the Italia Conti Associates Saturday school in Chislehurst. Her regular schooling started at Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts when she was 11 years old. Pixie was a very bright student and was awarded a scholarship.

Pixie soon became acquainted with acting and theatre art. When her family moved to Brentwood, Essex, she snagged a role in the stage musical ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’ which was a West End production. The musical was showcased at the London Palladium.

She then appeared as Louisa von Trapp in the musical ‘The Sound of Music’. Pixie’s opportunity to sing for a professional group arrived when she was 14 as she became a part of the chorus of Roger Waters’ opera, ‘Ça Ira’.

She graduated from Brentwood County High School in February 2010. By then, she had started travelling for her tours and concerts. Though Pixie started her career while she was still a student, she was well aware of how she needs to go about her studies amidst her busy schedule.

Pixie started her singing career quite early in her life. However, her breakthrough came when L. A. Reid, a famous lyricist and music executive, auditioned her. Pixie then went on to sign a contract with ‘The Island Def Jam Music Group’, a record label group, when she was fifteen.

By then, Pixie had already finished her first festival concert, held at the Isle of Wight Festival. In 2007, Pixie made her debut as a lyricist. She penned down the songs of her debut album, ‘Turn It Up’, which was produced by Sony/ATV Music Publishing.

Apart from writing songs of her own album, she has written songs for other artists too. She wrote the track ‘You Broke My Heart’ from the album ‘Overcome’ which was the debut album of Alexandra Burke. Next, she wrote a song for the band ‘Girls Can't Catch’. She then followed it up by writing lyrics for a couple of tracks for the album ‘Smoke’ which was Lisa Lois’ debut album. Selena Gomez too, has sung songs written by Pixie with ‘We Own the Night’ being one of them.

On 8 June, 2009, Pixie launched her first single, ‘Mama Do (Uh Oh, Uh Oh)’. Soon after, she released the music video of the single. The new single was a chartbuster, gaining two million views on YouTube. It also secured the top position at the UK Singles Chart. Pixie was surprised and overwhelmed by the response she received post the release.

The success of her single was not confined to the UK as it became famous internationally. ‘Mama Do’ broke into the top 10 of various music charts in Denmark and France. The single sold over 200,000 copies and was stamped as a silver record by the British Phonographic Industry.

Pixie’s fans didn’t have to wait for a long period of time for her next single. The same year in September, she released her second single, ‘Boys and Girls’. This single too, repeated the success of her debut single as it reached the number one position in the UK Singles Chart.

A month later, on 14 September, 2009, Pixie released her debut album, ‘Turn It Up’, on which she had been working for the past few months. The album reached the sixth position in the UK Albums Chart and was given a Double Platinum certification after it sold over 1 million copies worldwide.

By the fall of 2009, her third single from the album ‘Cry Me Out’ hit the shelves. That too, was a major hit.

In the year 2010, Pixie was nominated for the BRIT Awards for her debut single. She bagged almost all the awards that fell under the category, new music sensation of the year.

‘Gravity’, Pixie’s fourth single was released on 8 March, 2010. Since she was already a star by then, a lot of endorsement offers came her way. She endorsed Nokia’s new Illuvial Pink Collection mobile phone range. This gave Pixie a new image as that of a fashionista. Top-notch designers were hired to design her clothes and accessories whenever she had to attend a public event.

As her popularity rose, she was cast in the 2010 film ‘Fred: The Movie’. In the movie, she played the character of Judy, who is the love interest of the lead character Fred Figglehorn, played by Lucas Cruikshank.

She also made her first television appearance as a celebrity judge for the seventh season of ‘The X Factor’, a singing reality show.

By the end of 2010, Pixie came up with a reprised version of her debut album, ‘Turn It Up Louder’. She also released a single titled ‘Broken Arrow’ from the album.

On 7 November, 2011, Pixie launched her second album, ‘Young Foolish Happy’. For a long period of time, the album was among the top 20 in the UK Albums Chart. The British Phonographic Industry acknowledged the album as a gold record after it sold more than100,000 copies within the first week of its release. The album also gave Pixie her first highest grossing single, ‘All About Tonight’, which sold over 88,000 copies within the first week.

In 2012, Pixie came up with another hit single ‘Kiss the Stars’ from her second album. The single took the eight spot in the UK Chart. ‘Young Foolish Happy’ became her first album to produce three back-to-back top 10 singles. Pixie released her third and the first self-titled album on 1 August, 2014.

Pixie then made her next major television appearance as one of the contestants in the dance reality ‘Strictly Come Dancing’. She was paired with Trent Whiddon, a professional dancer from Australia. The pair reached the quarter-finals but lost the semi-finals.

The same year, Pixie released her next album ‘Platinum Pixie: Hits’ which is a collection of all her major hits.

MP3 Music Awards (2007) – Pixie won her first award under the category, Best New Act.

MTV Europe Music Awards (2009) – Pixie bagged two of the awards under the categories, Best UK and Ireland Act and MTV Push Artist of the year.

The Ultimate Women of the Year Awards (2010) – Pixie was awarded the Ultimate Newcomer of the year by Cosmopolitan magazine.

Pixie got into a relationship with Oliver Cheshire, an English model, in 2014 and they got engaged in November 2016.

She is a philanthropist and works towards the benefit of many charitable initiatives in London.
