He has also performed in a number of Hollywood-produced features, such as ‘Before Night Falls’, ‘S.W.A.T.’, and ‘Taking Lives’, to name a few. Born in Paris to a professional boxer father and a secretary mother, he did not have any links to the film industry. As a young man, he worked as a salesman for a while to earn his livelihood. It was his friends who urged him to try acting, and at the age of 23, he started attending the Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique (CNSAD). Currently, the French star also owns a restaurant called Villa Azur, in South Beach, Florida. Dashing and handsome, he has been romantically linked with a number of celebrity women till date. In 2013, Martinez married American actress Halle Berry. They had a son before ending their marriage in 2016. In his free time, Martinez likes to listen to jazz music.

After appearing in minor roles in a number of films, Olivier Martinez got his big break when he was cast as Petit Paul in the French drama film ‘Un, deux, trois, soleil’ for which he went on to win a César Award for "Most Promising Actor". Then he appeared as an Italian nobleman in the period flick ‘Le Hussard sur le Toit’ (The Horseman on the Roof) in 1995. The following year, he was cast in Bertrand Blier's romantic comedy ‘Mon Homme’ (My Man) alongside Gérard Lanvin, Anouk Grinberg and Valeria Bruni Tedesch. Martinez next played Horty in the French-Italian drama film ‘La Femme de chambre du Titanic’ (The Chambermaid on the Titanic).
In 2000, he did the French movies ‘Nosotras’, ‘La Taule’ and ‘Toreros’. That year, he also made his Hollywood debut in the biographical ‘Before Night Falls’. After this, the French actor did the European flick ‘Semana Santa’ in 2002. He then played Paul Martel in the American drama film ‘Unfaithful’. In 2003, he did the television film ‘The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone’.
