Who is Clint Trickett?
Clint Trickett is an American football player who went to earn fame and recognition as a coach. He laid the foundations for a scintillating career as a gridiron player and as a coach by playing college-level football, first representing Florida State University (FSU) and thereafter, West Virginia University (WVU). It was his father Rick Trickett, a veteran offensive line coach with many years of professional experience, coaching quarterbacks and starters at WVU and FSU, who inspired Clint to take up gridiron football. Clint started playing while he was in North Florida Christian High School in Tallahassee, Florida and emerged as a promising college football player, eventually choosing FSU over South Florida, Pittsburgh, Louisville, Arkansas, and other universities. He was redshirted in his freshman year as a Florida State Seminole player but took the field soon after with enthusiasm and performed robustly while standing in for EJ Manuel. In the sophomore year, Trickett did not get enough chances to demonstrate his skills as Manuel remained fit for most of the season. Following EJ’s departure after signing up with the NFL draft, his starting position became a tossup between Trickett, Jacob Coker, and Jameis Winston. Trickett explored the option of shifting back to his hometown and it was his experience that helped him to make it to the West Virginia University’s first-team. After suffering multiple concussions while playing for WVU, he decided to pursue a coaching career.

Career
Born in Morgantown, the largest city in North-Central West Virginia, Clint Trickett spent the better part of his growing up years in the city. He considers Rick Trickett, his father, an offensive line coach who trained quarterbacks and starters at West Virginia University (and later on FSU Seminoles), as his chief influence in encouraging him to practice the sport. He went to North Florida Christian School, clearing high school with a 3.8 GPA (or a 93% percentile grade) score and also earned a 3-star position from ‘Scout’ and ‘Rivals.com’ as a budding football player.
Clint Trickett was with the Philadelphia Eagles—a professional gridiron football franchise in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania—for three seasons where he chucked 59 touchdowns and collected over 5,300 passing yards for the small state school. Clint, as a collegiate football player, divided his time between Florida State University and West Virginia University where he accomplished 5,837 career yards and 32 touchdowns. Over 60% of these passing numbers were achieved as an active Seminole for two seasons in FSU, Morgantown, and garnered 67.1% of his 3,285 yards and 18 touchdowns at West Virginia University in his fifth year.
His association with Florida State Seminoles began in the season 2010-11 as a redshirted freshman when he substituted EJ Manuel who often had to leave the field owing to injuries. He played in a total of 9 games in the season that included two starts out of which one was for Clemson Tigers—the football squad of Clemson University. The other start was for FSU where he stood in for Manuel in his sophomore year (2012) in eight matches overall and effectively completed 22 out of 34 passes covering 272 yards.
E.J. Manuel left to compete in the NFL draft for the 2012-13 Season and his position was up for grabs between Clint, Jacob Coker and Jameis Winston. Redshirted freshman Jameis stunning performance during the practice camp in spring put paid to Trickett’s chances of starting afresh in the new season. Clint made up his mind to relocate to Morgantown to try his luck with West Virginia Mountaineers—the football team of WVU
For the two seasons that Clint Trickett represented FSU Seminoles, he collected a total of 947 passing yards, pitched 7 touchdowns, and completed 4 interceptions. Clint had long been planning to shift back to his hometown to play for WVU and this meticulous preparation helped him to complete his graduation as well as find a place in FSU’s first-team. He had to vie with Ford Childless and Paul Millard for the starter position at Mountaineers who proved to be remarkably competitive.
Trickett’s extensive experience, both at the college and professional levels of the sport. made him eligible to be chosen over Millard and Ford Childless as a starter for WVU’s first team for the 2013 season. In his debut season with Mountaineers, he appeared in eight fixtures overall, including seven starts, completing 123 out of 233 passes over 1,605 years, 7 interruptions, and 7 touchdowns. He began the 2014 season with WVU, starting a total of 11 matches in which he accomplished 281 passes out of 419 covering 3,285 yards, 10 interceptions, and 18 touchdowns.
His passionate engagement as a starter for WVU took its toll as he suffered five concussions in a 14-month period, resulting from enduring heavy blows. At the end of the season, Clint Trickett declared his retirement as a football player and subsequently focused on exploiting his innate and acquired skills on becoming a coach. He debuted as a quarterbacks coach for the football squad of East Mississippi Community (EMCC) in 2015 and stayed with the team for successive seasons.
Clint’s chief role as a coach was to train the quarterbacks of EMCC (that had won the NJCAA {National Junior College Athletic Association} National Football Championship three times), besides fulfilling other sundry responsibilities. Buddy Stephens, the head coach had so effectively coached the EMCC team that the squad had a strong quarterback every year since 2008 that alone could make the team win the NJCAA Championship. One such quarterback was De’Andre Johnson who was efficaciously trained by Trickett for the two seasons he remained with EMCC.
Clint Trickett is currently the ‘Tight Ends’ coach OF Florida Atlantic Owls Football team that represents the Florida Atlantic University. His elder brother Travis served as the offensive coordinator at Florida Atlantic University and is presently serving at Georgia State University.
