Who is Chris Pine?

Chris Pine is an American actor known for his roles in movies like ‘Star Trek’ and ‘Wonder Woman’. Chris belongs to a family of actors with an actor mother and father; his grandmother was also quite a popular actress back in her times. Chris started his professional acting career with ‘ER’ in 2003, where he featured just for one episode and later that year he was seen in popular TV shows such as ‘The Guardian’ and ‘CSI: Miami’. However, the most defining role of his career came to him in 2009, when he played the role of Captain James Kirk in the reboot of a cult film franchise ‘Star Trek’ and its subsequent sequels. He was also majorly rumoured to play the title role in the 2011 superhero film ‘Green Lantern’, but the role eventually went to Ryan Reynolds. However, still critics were praising Pine for his acting abilities and named him as a new ‘A list star in making’. Going through several other big and small films, he eventually landed another big break as Steve Trevor in the first movie adaptation of DC superhero character ‘Wonder Woman’ in 2017.

Childhood & Early Life

Chris Pine was born in Los Angeles on 26th August 1980 to Robert Pine, who was a prominent actor, and Gwynne Gilford, who was also an actress but later chose psychotherapy as career. He has an older sister named Katie. Ever since he was a kid, the vibe around his house was always cinematic and Chris grew up among the household where script readings and talks about films were frequent.

Chris wanted to become an actor ever since he was a teenager and often visited film sets in Hollywood while accompanying his mother or father. Initially, he was interested in sports, but his interest shifted to acting in high school. After finishing his high school from his hometown, he went on to do B.A. in English from University of California, and learned acting in American Conservatory Theatre and joining Williamson Theatre Festival turned out to be the biggest influence on his acting abilities where he learned the basic nuances of the craft.

Career

Once out of the theatre circuit, Chris started auditioning for TV roles and ended up getting minor roles in the TV series’ such as ‘ER’, ‘The Guardian’ and ‘CSI: Miami’ and started doing short films right around that time in 2003. By 2005, Pine had already made appearances in several short films and an independent film titled ‘Confessions’, a film which was directly released to video.

‘Surrender, Dorothy’ was another made for television film that he appeared in, but soon after that, a meaty role came for him in a film ‘Just My Luck’, in which Pine starred alongside the popular American celebrity, Lindsay Lohan. The comedy film was released in 2006 and in the same year Chris appeared in a few more films such as ‘Blind Dating’ and an hardcore action film titled ‘Smoking Aces’ and was also selected to play the lead part in a one man play ‘The Atheist’ in New York in 2006.

His theatrical performance was well received by the critics and the audiences alike and Chris opted to do some plays while he wasn’t getting the desired roles in Hollywood. In 2007 he was seen in a play titled ‘Fat Pig’ where he played the role of best friend of the lead character as an alpha man and received praises from all over for his performance. He also provided his voice for a character in the animation series ‘SuperMansion’, for which he was nominated for an Emmy Award. In 2017, Pine was seen providing his vocals for the second season of ‘SuperMansion’, and also ended up narrating National Geographic Channel’s ‘Breakthrough’.
