Chris Pine was born in Los Angeles on 26th August 1980 to Robert Pine, who was a prominent actor, and Gwynne Gilford, who was also an actress but later chose psychotherapy as career. He has an older sister named Katie. Ever since he was a kid, the vibe around his house was always cinematic and Chris grew up among the household where script readings and talks about films were frequent.

Chris wanted to become an actor ever since he was a teenager and often visited film sets in Hollywood while accompanying his mother or father. Initially, he was interested in sports, but his interest shifted to acting in high school. After finishing his high school from his hometown, he went on to do B.A. in English from University of California, and learned acting in American Conservatory Theatre and joining Williamson Theatre Festival turned out to be the biggest influence on his acting abilities where he learned the basic nuances of the craft.

Once out of the theatre circuit, Chris started auditioning for TV roles and ended up getting minor roles in the TV series’ such as ‘ER’, ‘The Guardian’ and ‘CSI: Miami’ and started doing short films right around that time in 2003. By 2005, Pine had already made appearances in several short films and an independent film titled ‘Confessions’, a film which was directly released to video.

‘Surrender, Dorothy’ was another made for television film that he appeared in, but soon after that, a meaty role came for him in a film ‘Just My Luck’, in which Pine starred alongside the popular American celebrity, Lindsay Lohan. The comedy film was released in 2006 and in the same year Chris appeared in a few more films such as ‘Blind Dating’ and an hardcore action film titled ‘Smoking Aces’ and was also selected to play the lead part in a one man play ‘The Atheist’ in New York in 2006.

His theatrical performance was well received by the critics and the audiences alike and Chris opted to do some plays while he wasn’t getting the desired roles in Hollywood. In 2007 he was seen in a play titled ‘Fat Pig’ where he played the role of best friend of the lead character as an alpha man and received praises from all over for his performance. In the 2008 film ‘Bottle Shock’, he played a major role and shocked the audiences with his powerful performance as a Napa Valley Vintner.

The year 2009 was quite lucky for Pine as he got offers to play major roles in two big films - ‘White Jazz’ and ‘Star Trek’, but Pine decided to go with ‘Star Trek’. The film was released in 2009 to critical and commercial acclaim and Pine’s character, Captain James Kirk, was met with special mentions in the reviews. And just like that, Hollywood offers started raining in on Pine.

In order to promote the film, Pine started making appearances in several talk shows doing interviews - the most prominent among them was his appearance in ‘Saturday Night Live’ and later that year, Pine concentrated on his play ‘Farragut North’ which again, was met with severe acclaim. For the play ‘The Lieutenant of Inishmore’, Pine was honoured with Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle award for best actor.
