Carlos Irwin Estevez, popularly known as Charlie Sheen is an American movie and television actor. He was born and brought up in New York to the veteran actor Martin Sheen. He started acting at a very young age and appeared in ‘Super 8’ movies. He started doing cameos in movies during the late 80’s and it was finally in 2000 that he appeared in a meaty role on television in the series called ‘Spin City’. His performance was critically acclaimed and he received a Golden Globe for it. Soon after that he got the biggest role of his acting career in CBS’s ‘Two and a Half Men’. He worked in the series for almost 8 years and received many Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. The series had put him on the top of highest paid television actors’s list. Childhood & Early Life

Charlie Sheen was born in New York to Martin Sheen and Janet Sheen. His father is a well known actor in the Hollywood film fraternity and his mother was an artist. He has 3 siblings.

All of Sheen children are actors. They all moved to Malibu, California because of their father’s Broadway show. His first appearance in a movie was made at the age of 9 in the movie ‘The Execution of Private Slovik’.

He attended the Santa Monica High School, Santa Monica, California. He started acting at a very young age and made ‘Super 8’ movies with his brother Emilio Estevez, friends and actors Rob Lowe and Sean Penn.

Career

In 1984, Sheen acted in ‘Red Dawn’ with other actors like Patrick Swayze, Jennifer Grey, Thomas Howell, etc. It was a Cold War teen drama. He worked with Jennifer Grey in another movie, ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’.

In 1986, he did his first main parts in the movies ‘Platoon’ which was a Vietnam War drama and also worked with his father in ‘Wall Street. Both movies were directed by the same director, Oliver Stone.

In 1988, ‘Born on the Fourth of July’ was offered to Sheen by Stone but later Tom Cruise was chosen for the role and Sheen was never informed about it, which is why he never took part in his next venture.

In the late 1980s, Sheen did roles in movies like ‘Grizzly II: The Predator’ which was a sequel to the horror film called ‘Grizzly’, ‘Eight Men Out’, ‘Young Guns’ for which he got a Bronze Wrangler and ‘Men at Work’.

In 1990, Sheen did the movie ‘Cadence’ which was his father, Martin Sheen’s directorial venture. He played the role of a rebellious army bulwark. He also did Clint Eastwood’s ‘The Rookie’ in the same year.

From 1992–1997, he did movies like, ‘Beyond the Law’, ‘Money Talks’ and the spoof ‘Hot Shots!’ movies. He wrote and produced two movies during this time, ‘Discovery Mars’ and ‘No Code of Conduct’.

In 1999, Sheen did a role in the A&E Network series called ‘Sugar Hill’ but unfortunately the show was cancelled. He also did cameos in movies like: ‘Being John Malkovich’, ‘Scary Movie 3’ and ‘Scary Movie 4’.

In 2000, Sheen did his first major role on the television for the first time when for the last two seasons of ‘Spin City’ he replaced Michael J. Fox. He received a Golden Globe award for his outstanding performance.

In 2003, he was cast in the biggest role of his life, in the sitcom for CBS ‘Two and a half Men’ in the role of ‘Charlie Harper’. He worked on the show for 8 years and received 3 Emmy nominations and 2 Golden Globe nominations.

After getting dismissed from his show ‘Two and a Half Men’, Sheen started his nationwide tour of ‘My Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat is Not An Option’ in 2012. He was also ‘roasted’ on Comedy Central around same time.

Personal Life & Legacy

In 1990, Sheen proposed to actress Kelly Preston but their engagement could not materialize into marriage as he accidently shot her and she called the wedding off. After that he checked into a rehab.

In 1995, he got married to model Donna Peele after meeting her on the sets of a commercial. They got divorced within a year’s time. He was revealed to be one of the clients of Heidi Fleiss’s escort agency.

From 1997–1998, Sheen was involved in a legal accusation made by his model girlfriend Brittany Ashland that he smashed her face on the kitchen floor. He was hospitalized for a drug overdose.

In 2002, he got married to actress/ model Denise Richards after meeting her on the sets of ‘Good Advice’. He was 36 at the time and started dating each other officially after Denise acted on his show ‘Spin City’.

They had 2 children together and by the time Richards was pregnant with the second baby in 2005, she filed for a divorce on the grounds that Sheen was a gambler, abused prescribed drugs and was violent towards her.

In 2007, he married a real estate investor Brooke Mueller in a small ceremony in LA. They had twin sons and after 3 years of their marriage, Mueller called it off stating that Sheen tried to kill her during one of their fights.
