Carrie Hope Fletcher is a British actress - predominantly in musical theatres, singer-songwriter, musician, author, blogger and YouTube personality. She is best known for performances in plays ‘Les Misérables’ and ‘The Addams Family’ both of which earned her WhatsOnStage.com Award; her popular eponymous YouTube channel; and her best-selling book ‘All I Know Now: Wonderings and Reflections on Growing Up Gracefully’. She forayed into acting featuring in a short Channel 4 dent at age five and made her West End debut at age seven playing Young Eponine in ‘Les Misérables’. She later reprised the character’s older version thus becoming the only British actress to portray both versions of Éponine in the production. Childhood & Early Life
She was born on October 22, 1992, in Harrow, London, England to Debbie and Bob Fletcher. Her father worked at Kodak and also performed in local bands, while her mother was a special-needs teacher.
Her older brother Tom is a singer songwriter, guitarist, YouTube vlogger and children's author best known as former member of the supergroup McBusted and founder, lead vocalist and guitarist of the English pop rock band ‘McFly’.
Acting Pursuits
Fletcher started acting with television when she was just five years old featuring in a short Channel 4 ident. Thereafter she starred in a Honey Nut Cheerios commercial with Kelsey Grammer. She also featured in many short roles on television including as Jenny in the CITV aired British pre-school children's TV show ‘Dog and Duck’.
Her West End debut happened in 2001 at age seven playing Young Eponine in the sung-through musical ‘Les Misérables’ based on Victor Hugo’s novel bearing same title. The play was staged at ‘The Palace Theatre’, London.
In 2002, she became part of the original cast of the stage musical ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’ playing Jemima Potts, the West End premiere of which happened on April 16 that year at the London Palladium.
The musical ‘Mary Poppins’ featured her as Jane Banks during 2004-05 at the Prince Edward Theatre in London. It became the only Disney musical that premiered in the United Kingdom.
In 2005 she played Weasel/Duck in stage adaptation of the children's novel by Kenneth Grahame titled ‘The Wind in the Willows’ that was produced at the Regents Park Open Air Theatre, London.
She reprised the role of Éponine in ‘Les Misérables’, this time portraying the older version, replacing Danielle Hope from June 17, 2013 to February 13, 2016 at the Queen's Theatre, London. With this she became the only British actress to essay the role in both its versions in the production. Her spectacular performance in the role won her the ‘WhatsOnStage Best Takeover In A Role’ award on February 23, 2014.
While playing Éponine in ‘Les Misérables’, she took a small break in November 2014 to play Beth during the Final Arena Tour of Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of the Worlds – The New Generation. The tour began in Sheffield on November 27, 2014 and took place across the UK and the Netherlands and closed in Amsterdam on December 16, 2014.
After Final Arena Tour of ‘The War of the Worlds’, she resumed her role of Éponine in ‘Les Misérables’ and went on to portray the character in the play’s 30th Anniversary gala performance that was held on October 8, 2015. Her final appearance as Éponine happened on February 13, 2016 following which Danielle Hope took over.
She re-joined cast of ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’ on May 4, 2016 during its UK tour. This time she essayed the role of Truly Scrumptious and made her final appearance playing the character on October 2, 2016. She was nominated for the ‘WhatsOnStage.com Award for Best Actress in a Musical’ in 2017 for the role.
From November 10 to December 2 in 2016 she featured as Eponine in the Dubai production of ‘Les Misérables’ that was staged at the Dubai Opera.
She along with her sister-in-law Giovanna Fletcher starred as Emily in the 2016 UK production of the musical ‘A Christmas Carol’. The musical premiered as a concert production played by London Musical Theatre Orchestra at the Lyceum Theatre, London on December 19, 2016.
One of her most notable stage portrayals was that of Wednesday Addams in the musical comedy ‘The Addams Family’ during the musical’s major UK and Ireland tour. The tour commenced on April 20, 2017, at the Edinburgh Festival Theatre. UK leg of the tour completed on November 4, 2017 at the Orchard Theatre in Dartford following which the production moved to Singapore, where it was staged from November 15 to December 3 in 2017 at the MES Theatre. Fletcher won ‘WhatsOnStage.com Award for Best Actress in a Musical’ in 2018 for her performance.
Other stage appearances of Fletcher includes as Brenda in the musical production of ‘The Christmasaurus’ at Eventim Apollo from December 21 to 28 in 2017; as Narrator of ‘The Railway Children’ stage production at the Cadogen Hall, London on January 21, 2018; and at the Carrie Hope Fletcher in Concert at the Cadogen Hall, London on March 31 and April 1 in 2018.
She is planned to play leading role of Veronica Sawyer in ‘Heathers: The Musical’ at ‘The Other Palace’ from June 9, 2018 to August 4, 2018; and as Beth in ‘The War of the Worlds: Alive on Stage’ during November/December 2018.
