Who is Candis Cayne?
Candis Cayne is a popular American transgender actress and performance artist. She is best known for portraying the character of Mistress Carmelita in the drama series ‘Dirty Sex Money’. Her portrayal of a trans-woman who was having an affair with Billy Baldwin’s character brought her to the spotlight and made her a noted personality in the transgender community. This was the first series where a real-life transgender played the role of a transgender character in a recurring role. Born as Brendan and assigned the male gender at birth, she didn’t even know what a transgender meant until after high school when she moved to New York City to perform as a choreographer and drag artist. Her transition began in the late 1990s when she started with hormone therapy. Upon coming out as a woman, she adopted the name “Candis Cayne” from her drag mother Lana Cayne. She is a trained classical dancer who has performed in bars and clubs like ‘Boy Bar’ in New York City. Apart from having a thriving television career, she has acted in movies and has been a choreographer in a few music videos. She is also an avid transgender activist and has stood up for Gay and Lesbian rights in the United States.
