She played the role of Helen Roper, a character who is frustrated by her husband’s indifference towards her. The show performed well and aired for seven years. Lindley was born in Los Angeles, California. Her father Bert Lindley was a small time actor. She gained entry into Hollywood at an early age and mostly did stunt work. She soon started appearing in Broadway plays as well. In addition to ‘Three’s Company,’ other important works in her career include the comedy film ‘Taking Off’. The film, which starred her in a supporting role, was about a couple in New York City whose teenage daughter runs away from home. She also played an important role in the sci-fi thriller TV film ‘Revenge of the Stepford Wives’. The talented actress passed away of leukemia at the age of 79.

Audra Lindley made her entry into Hollywood with the help of her father. She mostly worked as a stand-in, and also did stunt work. She also started working in Broadway theatre during her mid-20s. The many plays she worked in include ‘On Golden Pond’, ‘Playhouse 70’, ‘Long Day Journey’s into Night’, and ‘Horse Heavens’.

Though she took a break from acting in order to raise her children, she later started appearing on TV again from the early 1960s. She became known for her supporting role in the soap opera ‘Search for Tomorrow’. The show was a huge success, winning three Emmy Awards and three Writers Guild of America Awards. She was also seen in the soap opera ‘Another World’, where she played the role of a manipulative woman, ‘Aunt Liz’. She played a recurring role in the comedy TV series ‘Bridget Loves Bernie’. She was seen in an important role in the TV series ‘Fay’ as well.

In 1971, she was seen in an important role in the American movie ‘Taking Off’. The film, which was directed by Milos Forman, was about a couple in New York whose teenage daughter runs away. This makes them link up with other parents whose children have disappeared as well. The film won the Grand Prix Award at the Cannes Film Festival.

Her most significant role was her portrayal of Helen Roper in the hit TV comedy series ‘Three’s Company’. Her role of a sexually frustrated woman was quite appreciated. The series earned a lot of popularity and aired from 1977 to 1984, covering eight seasons.

The film has been adapted from the novels ‘Cannery Row’ and ‘Sweet Thursday’.

In 1985, she appeared in the romantic drama ‘Desert Hearts’. It was directed by Donna Deitch. The film was a commercial success and won multiple awards. Other films she appeared in include the 1989 adventure comedy ‘Troop Beverley Hills’. Her last works include an appearance in the horror anthology series ‘Tales from the Crypt’ as well as appearances in the TV comedy series ‘Cybill’ and ‘Friends’.
