Who is Trinity Fatu?

Trinity Fatu is an American professional wrestler, actress, model, dancer and singer. Currently signed to WWE, she plays under the ring name ‘Naomi’. Although most WWE superstars dreamed of becoming professional wrestlers when they were young, this wasn’t the case with Trinity. Trinity had not seen a WWE live show until she was an adult. Starting off as a background dancer in music videos and as a cheerleader for the NBA team Orlando Magic, she quickly rose from being a backup dancer for wrestler Brodus Clay to SmackDown Women’s Champion in a relatively short period of time. Trinity is also followed closely for her relationship with wrestler Jonathan Fatu who goes by the ring name ‘Jimmy Uso’. In addition to being a pro-wrestler on WWE, she is also a main cast member on the popular 'E! Network' show ‘Total Divas’. Trinity is also a songwriter. Her song ‘Dance All Night’ has over a million hits on Youtube.

Career

From 2007 to mid-2009, Trinity Fatu was a cheerleader and dancer for the NBA team Orlando Magic. During this period she also starred as a background dancer in videos for rapper Flo Rida.

Her career at the WWE, began when she signed a contract with them in August 2009. Adopting the ring name of ‘Naomi’ she made her debut in October that year at the Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW). Her first match was a mixed tag-team match in which she and partner Alex Riley lost to opponents AJ Lee and Brett DiBiase.

On 31 August 2010, it was announced in an episode of 'NXT' that she would appear in the all-female third season of 'NXT'. She made her 'NXT' debut on 7 September 2010 in which she and partner Kelly Kelly defeated Alicia Fox and rookie Maxine after Trinity successfully managed to pin Maxine.

On 30 November 2010, she was placed second that season after losing the 'NXT' singles final to Kaitlyn. she also lost the FCW singles final to AJ Lee on 23 January 2011.

On 9 January 2012 in an episode of 'Raw', Trinity made her WWE main roster debut alongside 'Cameron' (Ariane Nicole Andrew) as one of the backup dancers for Brodus Clay. She and Cameron were given the name ‘The Funkadactyls’.

On 27 March 2012, it was announced that ‘The Funkadactyls’ along with Brodus Clay and Tensai would be collectively known as ‘Tons of Funk’. They were set to face off against 'Team Rhodes Scholars' (comprising of Cody Rhodes and Damien Sandow) and the Bella Twins in an eight-person mixed tag-team encounter at 'WrestleMania 29'. The match was cut due to time constraints but eventually ended the following night on 'Raw' with ‘Tons of Funk’ as the winners.

In July 2013, Trinity was selected to feature as a member of the main cast on the reality TV show ‘Total Divas’ produced by WWE and E!.

On 15 December 2013, at the TLC pay-per-view, ‘Tons of Funk’ was disbanded after Trinity, Cameron, and Tensai became sick of Clay’s attitude.

In January 2014, Trinity was afforded a ‘push’ (a push is an attempt by the WWE to make a wrestler win more matches and become more popular) which resulted in her face off against the Divas Champion AJ Lee in various matches.

In an episode of 'Raw' on 3 February 2014, she suffered a legitimate injury, fracturing her orbital bone during a match against Aksana. On 17 March 2014, she returned to 'Raw' to defeat AJ Lee and Snuka in a tag team match with her partner Cameron.

On 7 July 2014, ‘The Funkadactyls’ had officially disbanded as a result of a brawl that erupted between Cameron and Trinity after their loss to AJ Lee and Paige in a tag team match. This led to them interfering in each other’s matches for weeks until the two finally squared off in a 'Battleground' pre-show where Cameron emerged victorious.

On 30 August 2014, Trinity announced that she would be taking a hiatus after having a minor surgery on her orbital bone. On her return in the 15 September episode of 'Raw', she went on to defeat former partner Cameron.

Trinity participated in a traditional elimination tag team match at the 'Survivor Series', in which she eliminated Cameron before pinning Paige, eventually going on to win the match for her team.

This led to three team elimination match at 'SummerSlam' on 23 August 2015 in which Naomi’s team lost.

While Trinity, Tamina and Sasha Banks, collectively known as ‘Team B.A.D’ stayed together for the rest of the year, they eventually disbanded after Banks announced her departure from the team. The feud that resulted because of Banks departure culminated in a tag team match at Fastlane, in which Trinity and Tamina lost to Banks and her partner Lynch.

On 6 April 2016, she confirmed that she would be a main cast member for the sixth season of ‘Total Divas’.

After being on hiatus for nearly two months, Trinity made her return to SmackDown Live on 24 January 2017, igniting a feud with Bliss. In the ensuing matches, she was successful in pinning Bliss on two separate occasions at the Royal Rumble and on SmackDown Live.

On 12 February 2017, Trinity competed in an Elimination Chamber match against Bliss. She emerged victorious to become the SmackDown Women’s Champion for the first time in her career. However, she was forced to relinquish her title the following Tuesday after sustaining a legitimate injury during the rematch.

On 2 April 2017, she successfully regained her SmackDown title in a six-pack challenge at ‘WrestleMania 33’ in her hometown of Orlando, Florida. She also defeated Bliss two days later in a rematch to retain the championship, eventually ending the feud between the two of them.

On 18 June 2017, she defeated Lana at ‘Money in the Bank’ to retain the SmackDown Women’s Championship. Trinity managed to successfully retain her title two more times in matches against Lana on 27 June and 4 July at ‘SmackDown’.

She debuted a customized title belt in July 2017. The belt featured glow-in-the-dark lights. On 20 August 2017, Trinity lost her belt to Natalya. This ended her reign as SmackDown Women’s Champion for 140 days.
