Childhood & Early Life
Tebow was born Timothy Richard Tebow on August 14, 1987, in Manila, Philippines, to Pamela Elaine and Robert Ramsay Tebow II. His parents later moved to Philippines to work as Baptist missionaries.
Before his mother was pregnant with him, she was diagnosed with amoebic dysentery and eventually fell into temporary coma. Doctors advised Tim’s parents to abort him as she was on strong medication. They feared that the medicines might have a deteriorating effect on the unborn child, but his parents’ faith was stronger than the medical advice. They decided to go ahead with the pregnancy and eventually, Tim was born even though he was malnourished during the time of his birth.
When he was three, Tim’s parents moved to Jacksonville, Florida. He was home-schooled as per his parents’ Christian beliefs.
Even though he is dyslexic, Tim believes it’s a gift from the Almighty. After a Floria legislation in 1996, home-schooled children were allowed to compete in high school sports events, thus, allowing Tim to try his luck in football.
In 2006, after playing for local high schools, he accepted a scholarship to the ‘University of Florida.’
Early Career
Tebow played his first ever match for ‘Trinity Christian Academy,’ a local high school. In 2003, he joined a football program at ‘Allen D. Nease High School’ and started playing as a quarterback.
He was named Florida’s ‘Player of the Year’ even after a fibula injury and controversy surrounding him being home-schooled and yet playing for his choice of school. During his senior year, he led his team, ‘Nease Panthers,’ to a state title and All-State honours.
He was named ‘Mr. Florida’ and played in the ‘U.S Army All-American Bowl’ in San Antonio, Texas, where he was one of the top 78 senior high school football players.
Career
Tebow attended the ‘University of Florida’ on an athletic scholarship and played for coach Urban Mayer’s ‘Florida Gators’ from 2006 to 2009. With his sterling performance, he was elected as the captain in 2008 and 2009.
He also won the ‘Heisman Trophy’ in 2007 and won ‘Gator’s ‘MVP’ Award thrice (2007, 2008 and 2009). He graduated with 5 ‘National Collegiate Athletic Association’ (NCAA), 14 ‘Southeastern Conference’ (SEC), and 28 ‘University of Florida’ statistical records, becoming one of the best college football players of all time.
Tim was selected by the ‘Denver Broncos’ for ‘2010 NFL Draft.’ He started his first NFL match in December 2010, against ‘Oakland Raiders’ where he scored the longest touchdown by a first-time quarterback in the history of ‘Broncos.’
His first victory came against the ‘Houston Texans.’ He started as a backup quarterback in the 2011 season, however, he replaced the quarterback in half-time during a home game against ‘San Diego Charers.’
He was brought in the very next game against the ‘Miami Dolphins.’ He received on-field success during the season with wins against ‘Oakland Raiders,’ ‘Kansas City Chiefs,’ and ‘Chicago Bears,’ and many others.
While he had a good run through the season, Tebow also reached a career low after he struggled to play against the ‘New England Patriots’ and ‘Buffalo Bills.’ However, he immediately touched a career high against the ‘Pittsburgh Steelers’ with a throw of 316 yards and two touchdowns.
Even so, he finished the season with the lowest possible completion rate in the ‘NFL.’ He also played for ‘New York Jets,’ ‘New English Patriots’ and the ‘Philadelphia Eagles’ before he announced to take up baseball.
In September, 2016, he signed a contract with the ‘New York Mets’ and played his first match in ‘Met’s instruction league.’ He hit a home run in the first pitch.
He played a regular season in 2017, which he began with the ‘Columbia Fireflies’ of the ‘South Atlantic League.’ He was soon promoted to ‘St. Lucie Mets of the Class A-Advanced Florida State League.’
He scored a hitting streak for 12 games during his time with ‘St. Lucie.’ In the 2018 season, he was promoted to ‘Met’s Double-A team,’ the ‘Binghamton Rumble Ponies of the Eastern League.’
He was also named ‘Eastern League-All Star Game.’ He had to miss the rest of the season due to an injury.
Other Pursuits
Tebow was hired by ‘ESPN’ in 2013, as a college football analyst. He appeared as a co-host of ‘SEC Network’ on the ‘SEC Network.’
He also co-hosted ‘Good Morning America’ on January 31, 2014. He released his autobiography, ‘Through My Eyes,’ on May 31, 2011, which became a ‘New York Times Best Seller’ and stayed there for 24 weeks. It was also named No.1 sports book of 2011.
