Who is Simon Lane?
Simon Lane is a British gaming expert and co-founder of the popular YouTube gaming channel ‘Yogscast.’ He is also the co-host of the podcast called ‘YoGPoD.’ Famous as Honeydew—his in-game name—he is the creative director of Yogscast Ltd as well. His nickname Honeydew came from the name of the scientist in the TV show ‘Muppets,’ called Bunsen Honeydew. Simon Lane began Yogscast in 2008 along with Lewis Brindley, who also co-hosts YoGPoD. When Lewis first met Simon while playing ‘World of Warcraft,’ he knew Simon was funny, and wanted to introduce him to his friends in ‘World of Warcraft.’ Soon they started making videos together and found that a lot of people enjoyed watching their experiences in games. Their channel became even more popular when they started covering ‘Minecraft.’In March 2015, Simon suddenly took a hiatus from Yogscast due to unspecified medical issues, which landed him in the hospital. Despite getting released from the hospital within a few weeks, Simon took off time from YouTube to fully recover, and finally returned on YouTube after six months in September 2015. He made a comeback with ‘Trials of Skobbels Episode 1.’ Despite making several series on the main channel since then, his involvement with Yogscast projects started diminishing throughout 2016. The channel gained popularity due to its videos about ‘MMO World of Warcraft.’ However, more recently it came to be associated with sandbox game ‘Minecraft,’ ‘Garry's Mod,’ and ‘Grand Theft Auto.’ He is passionate about YoGPoD, the podcast spin-off of the YouTube series of videos known as Yogscast. Yogscast features videos full of humour and comedy and it made history in UK by surpassing the 1 billion views mark in 2012. Simon is the central character of the BlueXephos channel on YouTube, the content of which seems innocent and light, but on a closer look it reveals a twist—it’s a little aggressive with double meanings.
His videos fall into two categories—‘Simon Sings,’ and ‘Simon Plays.’ The ‘Simon Plays’ series are simple ‘Let's Play’ videos of various computer/console games. Through these videos he demonstrates his mind. For example, he is fond of Jaffa Cakes, which he has mentioned in countless videos. His love for Jaffa Cakes led Lewis to help him build a Jaffa Cake Factory in their Tekkit series. He once failed a course in astrophysics while he was studying at Cardiff University. While at the university, he was once kicked out of a radio show after he called the host of the show a bastard—live on air—because he interrupted an Alanis Morissette song. In the earlier years of Yogscast, Simon lived in a shared house with a housemate. Along with “Honeydew,” Simon Lane had also used the online name “Alejandew” for a short time in 2010. This name was a play-on-words of the Lady Gaga song ‘Alejandro.’
