Who is Sean Young?

This gifted comedienne and actress had a very diffident beginning and started off as a model and a dancer before she stepped into the world of showbiz. She was the attractive young actress with whom the directors of the 80s aspired to work with. Ten years and several A-list movies later, her luck appeared to have run out. After a series of unsuccessful bids for movie roles and repeated dejection, she retreated from Hollywood for a while. Although she worked on several projects, her career never really took off. She was soon cast in a few roles in films and cable TV shows thanks to a much-publicized court case. Several media reports have listed exploits of her nutty behaviour ranging from her attempts to crash parties and her constant removal from shoots and films. She rejected a number of film offers, which later went on to become critical and commercial successes. Although her film career never really touched the pinnacle of success, she is in most people’s eyes, ‘a comeback waiting to happen’. Currently she continues to pursue her acting dreams and is seen in shows like ‘The Young and the Restless’ and ‘Skating with the Stars’. To learn more about this skilled actor, read on.

Childhood & Early Life

Mary Sean Young was born to Lee Guthrie and Donald Young in Louiseville, Kentucky. Her sister is the writer, producer and actress, Cathleen Young.

She studied at Cleveland Heights High School in Ohio and then graduated from the Interlochen Arts Academy, Michigan.

Before becoming an actress, she studied dance at the School of American Ballet, in New York and also worked as a model.

Career

She made her debut with the film ‘Jane Austen In Manhattan’, released in 1980. After a series of roles in lesser known films, she was cast in Ridley Scott’s cult classic, ‘Blade Runner’ in 1982. She followed that up with the hit, ‘No Way Out’ in 1987.

In the 90s, she played several roles that were critically panned. However, her performance in the film ‘Fatal Instinct’ in 1993 was acclaimed.

In 1994, she starred in the blockbuster, cult-classic, ‘Ace Ventura: Pet Detective’, along with Jim Carrey.

In 1997, the ‘Blade Runner’ video-game saw her reprise her role as Rachael. For the first time in history, an actor’s face was scanned and reproduced in 3D.

Over the course of the next decade, she appeared in supporting roles in several run-of-the-mill films, such as ‘The Amati Girls’ in 2001 and ‘Sugar and Spice’, which released the same year.

In 2003 she appeared in television soap ‘Russians in the City of Angels’ along with Pat Battistini, Lane Davies and Rodion Nahapetov.

She played a small role in ‘One Tree Hill’ in 2007 and three years later appeared in ‘The Young and The Restless’.

She partook in the ABC reality show, ‘Skating with the Stars’ along with skater, Denis Petukhov, in 2010, but was the first contested to be eliminated from the show.

She starred in the television horror film, ‘Attack of the 50 Foot Cheerleader’ in 2012 as ‘Brenda Stratford’ and also appeared in the film, ‘Jug Face’, a year later.

Major Works

In 1987, she played the role of Susan Atwell in ‘No Way Out’ which grossed approximately $35 million at the domestic box office and was received well by the critics who said that the film was ‘ingenious’.

‘Ace Ventura: Pet Detective’, released in 1994, in which she played the supporting role of ‘Lt. Lois Einhorn’ or ‘Ray Finkle’, amassed a worldwide collection of $107 million and spawned a sequel, ‘Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls’.

Personal Life & Legacy

This actress has had many run-ins with the law. In 1988, James Woods, her co-star, filed a case against her for stalking and causing property damage, which was settled out of court.

Sean Young married singer and actor, Robert Lujan, in 1990 and they have two children; Rio and Quinn. They divorced in 2002 and Lujan was seen with her in the reality show, ‘Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew’.

In 2008, she was in a rehabilitation centre as she suffered from chronic alcoholism.

There was a scuffle at the post-Oscars party in 2012 in which the actress was arrested for her ‘misdemeanour’.

Trivia

In the early 90s, this Hollywood actress attempted to bag the role of ‘Catwoman’ in Tim Burton’s ‘Batman Returns’, by stitching a Catwoman costume and appearing for a spontaneous audition. However she was kicked off the sets.

The actress was offered the role of ‘Ginger McKenna Rothstein’ in the film, ‘Casino’, but could not play the role as she was pregnant at the time.

She played a role in Woody Allen’s, ‘Crimes and Misdemeanours’, but during the post-production of the film, the director cut out all the scenes in the film that featured this actress.
