Childhood & Early Life
Samira Wiley was born on April 15, 1987, in Washington, D.C. She was raised by her parents, Dennis W. Wiley, and Christine Wiley. Samira has two siblings, namely Joshua Wiley and Aiyana Ma'at.
Samira was interested in acting from a very young age. She attended ‘The Duke Ellington School of the Arts’ and then pursued higher studies at the prestigious ‘Juilliard School,’ New York City. She graduated from ‘Juilliard School’ in 2010.
Career
She began her mainstream acting career with the 2011 comedy film ‘The Sitter,’ in which she played the role of Tina. In the same year, she also got an opportunity to play Maria in the theatrical adaptation of Shakespeare's play ‘Love's Labour's Lost.’
Samira’s big breakthrough came in 2013 when she got an opportunity to play Poussey Washington in the TV series ‘Orange Is the New Black.’ After appearing in 12 episodes in the first season, she returned to the show during its second season.
