Who is Marcus Brimage?

Marcus Clyde Brimage, also known as The Bama Beast, is an American mixed martial artist who turned professional in 2007. Marcus was signed by the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in 2011 and was part of the show for four years. Initially he fought in the Featherweight division and later moved to the Bantamweight category before he was released in 2015. The southpaw first made his name fighting as an amateur where he holds a 10-0 record and later turned professional. During his early professional career he was signed by The Ultimate Fighter. However, due to injuries, he could never appear for the show. Marcus Brimage persevered despite all the challenges he faced and eventually went on to have a glorious career with UFC. He holds a professional record of 7 wins and 7 losses with 3 wins by knockout. His last professional win came in 2014 against Jumabieke Tuerxun of China with a knockout kink in the head. He has also beaten fighters like Jim Hettes, Stephen Bass, and Kyle Bradley.

Career

As a youngster, Marcus Brimage was inspired by an episode of the Japanese anime television series ‘Dragon Ball Z’. He was also inspired by Quinton Jackson after watching one of his highlight reels while in high school. Later he started working out at a local Muay Thai gym where he met Chris Connelly with whom he opened the gym ‘Spartan Fitness’. Soon after, Marcus started fighting as an amateur and achieved a record of ten wins without any defeat within a year.

In 2007, Marcus Brimage turned professional and fought for Georgia Fighting Championships where he faced Jason Kwast and defeated him in a unanimous decision. On January 19, 2008, he faced Bryan Goldsby whom he defeated in the second round of the game by knockout. A month later, he faced his first professional defeat against Joey Camacho within one minute twenty-seven seconds into the match at the show in ‘Iron Ring.’ The fight caused him injuries which forced him to stay out of any further fights for two years.

He made his return on July 31, 2010, beating Kyle Bradley by knockout. In 2011, Marcus joined The Ultimate Fighter 14 after taking special training in Coconut Creek, Florida with the ‘American Top Team’. However, injuries forced him to stay on the sidelines and he could never make an appearance.

In December 2011, Marcus made his biggest move by joining the Ultimate Fighting Championship and made his debut on December 3 that year under the Featherweight category and defeated Stephen Bass in a unanimous decision. In the next two fights in 2012, he defeated Maximo Blanco and Jim Hettes by split and unanimous decisions respectively. Marcus tasted his first defeat in UFC on April 6, 2013, when he was beaten by Connor McGregor within a minute into the first round of the fight by knockout.

A year later in July 2014, he lost to Russell Doane in a bantamweight bout by split decision. He was scheduled to fight Erik Perez on November 15, 2014, at the UFC 180; however, the fight was rescheduled as Perez pulled out of the bout citing shoulder injury.

Thus Brimage was put against Jumabieke Tuerxun on November 8, 2014, at UFC Fight Night 55; Jumabieke was beaten by Marcus with a knockout head kick. After the fight, he appeared two more times in UFC in 2015 against Cody Garbrandt and Jimmie Rivera, losing both the fights by knockout. Marcus Brimage was released by the UFC on October 16, 2015.

Marcus Brimage fought Soo Chul Kim on Mar 12, 2016, in Road Fighting Championship 29 and Leonardo Morales on Jun 25, 2016, in Viva Nicaragua Canal 13 - MMA War. He lost both the fights by unanimous decisions.
