Malia Obama first came to the limelight when her father Barack Obama occupied the office of the 44th President of the United States on January 20, 2009. As a young member of the First Family, she received a lot of attention along with her younger sister Natasha who became the youngest child to reside in the White House since John F. Kennedy Jr. in 1961. Both the little girls became the darlings of the adoring citizens who were eager to lap up any information they could get about the president’s daughters. Cautious about the ill-effects too much publicity could have on the girls’ lives, Barack Obama decided to shield them from the public eye. Under the protective gaze of their parents, Malia and her sister were carefully guarded from unnecessary publicity so that they could live like normal girls of their age.

The 18-year-old also came under public scrutiny when she was spotted in an exclusive Soho nightclub known as The Parlor which is only for 21 years and up. She was alleged to be intoxicated and was accused of shouting at a White House correspondent who happened to be at the same party.

Malia Obama is the elder daughter of former US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle. She was born on July 4, 1998 at the University of Chicago Medical Center. She has one younger sister, Natasha, also known as Sasha. The girls’ lives changed completely once their dad became the president and they too were elevated to the status of “First Daughters.” She attended the Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C. where she was also active in soccer, dance and drama. She graduated in 2016 and spent the summer working as an intern in the U.S. Embassy in Madrid, Spain. She also secured an internship with Hollywood producer, Harvey Weinstein, in early 2017. She plans to attend Harvard University in the near future.
