Childhood & Early Life

Born on 14th September 1971, Kimberly Williams was raised up in New York City in a very affluent family of Gurney Williams III, a very popular writer who wrote on topics such as health and science, and Linda Barbara, who worked as a fundraiser for events.

The family had many contacts with the film industry and all the glitz attracted Kimberly and her sister, Ashley, to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. She also has two brothers Jay Williams, also working in the industry as a cameraman and Torrence, a fire-fighter in California.

Kimberly was attracted to show business since she was a child and she worked in many stage shows in school and eventually at the age of 13, she went on to work in the commercial films for brands such as Pizza Hut and Clearasil.

Her mother too was initially aware of her career choice and pushed her to finish her education first. Kimberly being too close to her mother, did just that and performed equally well in the academics. Her incredible talent and an eye for spectacle provided her with an opportunity to direct the Rye High School Musical Revue at the age of 17 while in high school.

She got her first ever film role in 1991 during the second year of her college in ‘Father of the Bride’ as Annie Banks. Many more offers started raining in on her, but she heeded her mother’s advise and went back to finish her education before setting out for a career in Hollywood. She studied in Northwestern University and pursued a degree in drama and when she graduated finally, she set out to embark on a long and successful career in the biggest entertainment industry in the world.

Career

Having done commercial films early in her career, Kimberly Williams was more or less a known face already due to her charming smile and gorgeous blue eyes. Her official training in drama during college helped her bag a role in ‘Father of the Bride’ in 1991. She played Annie Banks, a radiant young bride. Her character and its portrayal were widely appreciated and the film became a major hit both commercially and critically, a rare feat for a light hearted entertaining commercial film.

Offers started coming in quickly, and she took a break for an entire year to complete her education and by then, her footing in Hollywood was so strong that she didn’t have to struggle much to bag good roles when she made a comeback. Before the sequel to the hit film ‘Father of the Bride’ came her way in 1995, she had already done a few more films such as ‘Indian Summer’ and ‘Coldblooded’. The sequel titled ‘Father of the Bride II’ came in 1995 and although the film was majorly loved, it couldn’t repeat the success of the first one, but it proved audiences had accepted Kimberly gladly.

Many film and TV roles followed; most prominent of them was in the ABC comedy series ‘According to Jim’, in which she played Dana and became a series regular for an entire decade, after grabbing the role in 2001. She appeared in 164 episodes as an actor and also ended up directing 3 episodes. Meanwhile, she continued playing small and big roles in films such as ‘The War at Home’ and ‘Safe House’ and appeared briefly in a few episodes of TV series’ such as ‘Jake’s Women’ and she was a regular on ‘Relativity’ as well, for some time, featuring in 17 episodes.

She later went on to feature in comedy film ‘How to eat Fried Worms’ in 2006, the film adaptation of a famous children’s book, with Tom Cavanagh featuring as her co-star. Ace director McG signed her on for the Warner Bros picture ‘We are Marshall’, where she was seen opposite Matthew McConaughey and she also did a few indie and TV films. But ‘According to Jim’ was the project which somehow kept her in the limelight.

In 2010, she appeared in a television movie ‘Amish Grace’, a controversial film based on Amish School Massacre, for the Lifetime Network. The film was a big success and Kimberly received wide appreciation for her role. She also starred in ‘Nashville’ as a mysterious girl named Peggy Kenter and also got a recurring role in hit sit-com ‘Two and a Half Men’. Her other television stints include ‘Relativity’, ‘Identity Theft’, ‘Lucky Seven’ and ‘The Christmas shoes’.

Apart from her film and TV roles, she also had a successful tryst with Broadway, as she made her debut on stage with the Tony award winning popular drama ‘The Last Night of Ballyhoo’. Apart from that, she has also been seen on stage in ‘The Vagina Monologue’ in different American cities and she also has to her credit, a major role in ‘All in the Timing’. She went to London with with the play ‘Speed the Plow’, in which she starred opposite Patrick Marber and Mark Strong.

Kimberly’s most recent acting roles include films such as ‘Speech and Debate’, ‘you get me’ and ‘Elvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip’. She remains a guest star in many TV shows and constantly features in commercials as well.

Williams-Paisley also happens to be an accomplished writer and shares the credit of writing a children book ‘Henry and the Hidden Veggie Garden’ with her father. She also wrote an essay for the Redbook magazine in 2014 called ‘Is my Mother Gone?’ a piece she wrote on the impact of her mother’s sickness on their family. The article eventually went on to become a success and that inspired Williams to dig deeper and she came out with a fully fledged book titled ‘Where the Lights Get In’.

Apart from that, Williams has also been a regular contributor for articles in magazines such as ‘In Style’ and ‘New You’.

Personal Life

Kimberly Williams has an image of a very kind hearted woman, a trait which she says she has inherited from her mother. She is extensively connected to the charities for Haiti Relief Funds and Animal Rescue programmes.

Kimberly Williams Paisley is married to the popular country singer Brad Paisley since March 2003 and the couple is leading a happy life. They became parents to two sons, William and Jasper, both born two years apart in the late 2000s.
