Born in Dublin, he developed an early interest in acting and moved to England to attend the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. Shortly after his graduation, he was seen in the play ‘Quartermaine’s Terms’. Over the next few years, he started appearing in TV shows. Childhood & Early Life
William Jonas Armstrong was born in Dublin, Ireland on 1st January 1981. His parents are Harold and Eva Armstrong.
Since he wanted to pursue a career in acting, he studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He graduated with a BA in 2003.
Career
Following his graduation, Jonas Armstrong was seen in the play ‘Quartermaine’s Terms’ at the Royal Theatre in Northampton, where he portrayed Derek Meadle. The next year, he was seen in another play named ‘The Skin of Our Teeth’ at the Young Vic Theatre.
He made his TV debut in 2004 playing a role in the British TV series ‘Teachers’ where he was seen in seven episodes. The next year, he played a main role in the crime drama series ‘The Ghost Squad’, where he portrayed Pete Maitland. The series aired for eight episodes from November to December. It was appreciated by critics as well as viewers.
In 2006, he played an important role in the TV movie ‘Losing Gemma’. Split into two parts, the movie aired on 18th and 19th December. Directed by Maurice Philips, the story revolved around the disappearance of a girl named Gemma after a trip. When her friend returns from the trip alone, she is haunted by the belief that she is responsible for her friend’s disappearance.
