Vanilla Custard Cream Squares Recipe 1

Vanilla Custard Cream Squares Recipe

If you’re a fan of rich, creamy desserts, Vanilla Custard Cream Squares are a must-try! This decadent dessert features a buttery graham cracker crust, velvety custard filling, and a fluffy whipped cream topping. It’s a perfect treat for any occasion, combining comforting vanilla flavors with a smooth texture that will melt in your mouth.

Ingredients:

For the Crust:

  • 1 ½ cups graham cracker crumbs
  • ⅓ cup melted butter
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar

For the Custard:

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 5 large egg yolks
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 tbsp cornstarch

For the Whipped Cream:

  • 1 ½ cups heavy cream
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Crust:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×9 inch baking dish with parchment paper, allowing overhang for easy removal.
    • In a medium bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs, melted butter, and sugar. Press the mixture firmly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
    • Bake for 10 minutes and then set aside to cool.
  2. Make the Custard:
    • In a medium saucepan, heat the whole milk and heavy cream over medium heat until just simmering.
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together sugar, egg yolks, vanilla extract, and cornstarch until smooth.
    • Gradually pour the hot milk mixture into the egg mixture while whisking constantly to avoid curdling.
    • Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook, stirring constantly, until thickened and bubbly, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and cool slightly.
    • Pour the custard over the cooled crust, spreading evenly. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours to set.
  3. Make the Whipped Cream:
    • Beat heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract in a large bowl until stiff peaks form.
    • Spread the whipped cream over the custard, smoothing into an even layer.
  4. Optional Garnish:
    • For an added touch, sprinkle extra crushed cookies or white chocolate shavings on top before serving.

Tips:

  • Custard consistency: Be patient when cooking the custard; ensure it thickens properly before removing from heat. This will prevent a runny texture.
  • Whipped cream texture: For fluffier whipped cream, make sure your cream is cold before whipping.
  • Add-ins: Consider adding fresh berries or a drizzle of caramel for an extra flavor boost.
