Childhood & Early Life

Quin was born on January 30, 1987, in Limerick, Republic of Ireland. Since childhood she was passionate about wrestling and used to watch wrestling matches along with her brother. Her brother later wrestled under the name ‘Gonzo de Mondo.’

While growing up, she enjoyed horse riding, swimming and basketball. After schooling, she enrolled for higher studies in philosophy, history and politics, but gave up the studies at 17 as she did not find it interesting.

At the age of 15, Quin and her brother joined a wrestling school, operated by Fergal Devitt and Paul Tracey. She once revealed that before starting her wrestling training, she was getting into alcoholism, but wrestling helped her get over the habit.

Career

After 5 months of training, Quin made her professional debut with the ring name ‘Rebecca Knox.’ She also received training at ‘NWA UK Hammerlock.’ During the initial stages of her career, she formed a tag team with her brother in ‘Mixed Tag Team’ matches and participated in wrestling contests in Ireland. Later she extended her arena and started participating in the European wrestling circuit as well.

Quin participated in ‘Queens of Chaos Promotion’ in France and won the ‘World Queens of Chaos Championship,’ in 2006. She appeared in the British professional wrestling promotion, ‘One Pro Wrestling,’ and Germany’s ‘German Stampede Wrestling.’

Before 2005, she suffered broken ankles (both) and two stingers during the course of wrestling tournaments.

In June 2005, she won the title of ‘Inaugural SuperGirl Champion’ at the ‘SuperGirl Wrestling Promotion,’ which is a branch of ECCW (‘Extreme/Elite Canadian Championship Wrestling’), a western Canada based professional wrestling promotion. She defended this championship for over 10 months. Quin participated in the San Francisco-based women’s professional wrestling promotion, ‘ChickFight III,’ and in October 2006 she reached up to the second round of the tournament.

In November 2005, she went on a two week tour of Japan and participated in ‘International Women’s Grand Prix.’ Later she stated that she considered this tour as the highlight of her career.

In 2006, she made her debut on the All-Women ‘Shimmer Women Athletes,’ which is a Chicago-based, independent women’s professional wrestling promotion. (She wrestled in a series of matches, mainly with Daizee Haze, where one of the matches, a ‘two-out-of-three-falls’ match received much acclaim).

On September 26, 2006, during a ‘German Stampede Wrestling’ match, her opponent, Finnish wrestler ‘Kisu,’ misjudged a landing and she received an injury above her eye. It was treated with stitches, but later she experienced headaches, distorted vision and a loud buzzing noise in left ear. It was later established that her eighth cranial nerve was damaged. This led to a setback in her wrestling career as she had to cancel the remaining fights of that year. She was supposed return to wrestling in 2008, but it did not happen.

During this time, Quin completed her studies and obtained a degree in acting from ‘Dublin Institute of Technology.’ She also studied at Columbia College, Chicago, and the ‘Gaiety School of Acting,’ which is an Irish drama school in Dublin. She performed in a number of plays during 2011- 2012. For two and half years, she also worked for ‘Aer Lingus’ as a flight attendant.

In 2011, she returned to ‘Shimmer’ as a manager of mother-daughter tag team of Saraya and Britani Knight. Quin signed a contract with ‘WWE’ in April 2013 and shifted to Florida to join their development zone ‘NXT.’ She changed her ring name from Rebecca Knox to Becky Lynch and made her debut in NXT live event in November 2013. She made her TV debut on June 26, 2014, in an ‘NXT’ episode and she made her main roster debut on July 13, 2015, on an episode of ‘Raw.’

During the ‘2016 WWE draft’ Quin was the first woman drafted to the ‘SmackDown’ brand and on September 11, 2016, she became the first ‘SmackDown Women’s Champion.’ She successfully defended the title for 84 days. Later she masked herself and turned ‘La Luchadora.’

Quin participated in ‘WrestleMania 33’ in April 2017, and the first ‘WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal’ at the ‘WrestleMania 34.’ In September 2018, she fought a title match at ‘Hell In A Cell’ and won the ‘SmackDown Women’s Championship’ for a second time and set a career record. She defended her title till October 2018.

Personal Life

Quin appeared in a 2013 episode of ‘Viking’ and also made an appearance in ‘The Marine 6: Close Quarters.’ Her character, ‘Lynch,’ appears in three video games.

In February 2016, Quin began dating Luke Sanders, an MMA fighter in the ‘Ultimate Fight Championship (UFC).’ It is believed that the two separated in April 2018.
