Career
Andre Drummond’s school basketball career started at Woodrow Wilson Middle School. He then played at Capital Preparatory Magnet School and later at St. Thomas More where he was one of the most dominating centers in the team. In 2010, he was a part the United States team that won the gold medal at the 2010 FIBA Under-17 World Championship.
Drummond then went on to attend the University of Connecticut. There, he played 34 games, averaged 28.4 minutes per game and also grabbed 7.6 rebounds and scored 10.0 points. He was then declared available for the 2012 NBA draft in April 2012. He was selected by the Detroit Pistons. The following year, he was named to NBA’s All-Rookie Second Team.
On January 24, 2014, the basketball player recorded 20 rebounds with 20 points as well as two blocks in a loss to New Orleans Pelicans. A month later, he scored 30 points and was honoured with the MVP of the event title.
During the 2015-16 season, Drummond helped his team make NBA-tying-best 3–0 record. He also became the first Pistons basketball player to make three successive double-doubles to start the season. In November, he won the ‘Eastern Conference Player of the Week’ title.
On July 15, 2016, the American basketball star re-signed a five-year contract with the Pistons for $130 million. On November 19, 2016, he scored 20 points and 17 rebounds against the Boston Celtics, thereby reaching 4,000 career rebounds. Aged just 23 years and 101 days on the day of achieving this record, he became the second-youngest player to reach the milestone.
During the 2017-18 season, Drummond recorded 24 rebounds, 30 points, six blocked shots, three steals, and four assists in a 98–95 overtime defeat to the Utah Jazz on January 24, 2018. By doing so, he became the first basketball player to record such stats in a match since 1973–74, when NBA first started to record steals and blocks. On January 30, 2018, Drummond was named as a replacement for the American basketball player John Wall in the NBA All-Star Game.
