Rio Mangini is an American actor, composer, and musician, best known for his role of ‘McQuaid’ in the comedy–drama ‘Everything Sucks!’ Rio fell in love with acting at the age of 10, when he starred in the short film ‘Six Letter Word,’ as ‘Jax,’ in 2012. After appearing in a few TV projects, Rio was seen in the direct-to-video film ‘The Little Rascals Save the Day’ in 2014. The movie was the sequel of 1994 movie ‘The Little Rascals.’ He made his TV debut in the 2013 science-fiction comedy ‘Marvin Marvin.’ Some of his other TV appearances were in ‘Kickin’ It’ (2012), ‘Bella and the Bulldogs’ (2015), ‘General Hospital’ (2017), and ‘Everything Sucks!’ (2018). Rio is the son of ‘Academy Award’-winning sound designer/editor Mark Mangini. With music and entertainment in his blood, Rio turned out to be a piano prodigy. As a pianist, he made his debut when he was 9 years of age. He has also won various awards and accolades for his piano skills, one of them being the ‘Young Artist Award’ for ‘Outstanding Instrumentalist’ in 2012. Childhood & Early Life

Rio was born on October 6, 2002, in California, to sound designer Mark Anthony Mangini and Ann Mangini. He has two half-brothers, Matt Mangini and Joey Mangini.

His father, Mark, won the 2015 ‘Academy Award’ for ‘Best Sound Editing,’ along with David White, for ‘Mad Max: Fury Road.’ Mark is also known for designing the new track for the ‘MGM mascot ‘Leo the Lion.’

Mark has earned four more ‘Oscar’ nominations for sound editing for movies such as ‘Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home,’ in 1986; ‘Aladdin,’ in 1992; ‘The Fifth Element,’ in 1997; and ‘Bladerunner 20149,’ in 2017.

Rio attends the ‘Colburn School of Performing Arts,’ where he studies piano. Rio has been an extraordinary pianist since childhood.

He made his ‘Carnegie Hall’ debut at the age of 9 and was immediately recognized for his unique piano skills. He won a lot of awards as a pianist.

Early Career

Rio made his acting debut in the 2012 short film ‘Six Letter Word,’ which was featured in the ‘Emerging Filmmaker Showcase’ at the coveted ‘Cannes Film Festival’ in 2013. The film was about a mother struggling to confront her son’s autism.

In 2013, Rio made his TV debut as ‘Tom’ on the show ‘Marvin Marvin.’ The science-fiction show was about an alien who lands on Earth when his planet goes to war.

In 2013, he appeared in three episodes of the series ‘What If.’ The same year, he played ‘Felix Garcia’ in the TV movie ‘The Garcias Have Landed.’

2013 turned out to be a good year for Rio, since he also got an opportunity to play ‘Sam’ in five episodes of the ‘Disney XD’ comedy series ‘Kickin’ It.’ The show was about a karate instructor who joins an underperforming martial arts academy, to improve its image.

The show lasted for four seasons and aired its last episode in 2015. Rio then appeared in ‘Good Luck Charlie’ as ‘Matt’ and in ‘Switched at Birth’ as ‘Sammy.’

He was seen in other short films, too, such as ‘The Garcias Have Landed’ (2013) and ‘Pizza Bear Delivery Challenge’ (2013), before he landed a role in the comedy film ‘The Little Rascals Save the Day.’ The direct-to-video film was released by the ‘Universal Pictures’ in 2014. He portrayed ‘Woim’ in this film, which was a sequel of the 1994 hit ‘The Little Rascals.’

He appeared in another TV movie titled ‘Finders Keepers,’ in which he played ‘Dylan.’ The thriller narrated the tale of a little girl obsessing over an evil doll while her mother tries to get her daughter out of the horrific situation.

He played ‘Carlos’ in two episodes of the ‘Nick at Nite’ series ‘See Dad Run.’ The American sitcom was about the adventures of an actor who becomes a stay-at-home father and deals with everyday situations of being a dad.

He played ‘Rygan’ in four episodes of ‘Miles from Tomorrowland,’ an animated space adventure series. ‘Miles from Tomorrowland’ was named after ‘Tomorrowland’ of the ‘Disney’ theme parks. The show lasted for three seasons and was named ‘Mission Force One’ in its final season.

Career

In 2015, Mangini landed a recurring role in the ‘Nickleodean’ comedy TV show ‘Bella and the Bulldogs.’ Rio portrayed the character of ‘Ace McFumbles’ in the series that lasted for two seasons.

The last episode of the ‘Bella and the Bulldogs’ aired on June 25, 2016. The show also starred Brec Bassinger, Coy Stewart, Jackie Radinsky, Buddy Handleson, Lilimar, and Haley Tju.

He also appeared in the TV movie ‘One Crazy Cruise’ the same year. He played ‘Cameron Jensen-Bauer’ in the film.

He became part of another TV film titled ‘Nickelodeon’s Ho Ho Holiday Special’ in 2015. He began 2016 with a role in the short film ‘Lasso & Comet,’ in which he played ‘Lasso.’

The series was about a group of teenagers growing up in Boring, Oregon, and attending ‘Boring High School,’ when they decide to shoot a movie. The show was set in the 1990s and exhibited the issues related to sexual and mental health of teenagers.

The show was canceled after its first season. Rio starred in all the episodes of the show.

He is set to star as ‘Jeff’ in the TV movie ‘Guess Who Died’ in 2018. He is also gearing up to appear in his first full-fledged Hollywood movie, ‘Reach,’ in the same year.

‘Reach’ is currently in post-production. Rio will be portraying a character named ‘Leo’ in the film. He is also composing music for the film.
