Who is Moses farrow?

Moses Amadeus Farrow is a Korean-American freelance photographer and licensed marriage and family therapist. He is one of the two adopted children of Mia Farrow and Woody Allen. Afflicted with cerebral palsy as a child, he was abandoned by his birth parents. He was two years old when Mia adopted him in 1980. Allen, who had been in a relationship with Mia since later that year, formally adopted Moses in 1991. Also in 1991, Allen began an affair with Soon-Yi Previn, one of Mia’s other adoptive children. This caused a bitter breakup of Allen and Mia’s relationship. In August 1992, Dylan Farrow, Allen’s other adoptive child with Mia, accused him of sexual assault. Allen vehemently denied the charges and the case was eventually dropped. Moses provided his own account of the events to writer Eric Lax who later published them in his book about Allen, ‘Start to Finish’. According to Moses, he had been abused by Mia since he was a child. He also contradicted Dylan’s accounts, claiming that she had been instructed by Mia on how to accuse Allen of sexual abuse.

Childhood & Life in the Farrow Household

Moses was born on January 27, 1978, in Korea. He had been afflicted with cerebral palsy since he was a child and was abandoned in a phone booth, from where he was later taken to an orphanage. At the age of two, in 1980, he was adopted by Mia Farrow, who was one of the most prominent actors of Hollywood at the time. Mia already had six other children: three biological sons from her marriage to composer André Previn, twins Matthew and Sascha, and Fletcher, and three adoptive children, Vietnamese-born Lark Song Previn and Summer "Daisy" Song Previn and Korean born Soon-Yi Previn.

Mia met Woody Allen in 1979 and began their relationship a year later. Between 1982 and 1992, she starred in 12 of his films. In 1984, they tried to have a biological child together but Mia’s efforts to get pregnant were unsuccessful. In 1984, Mia adopted Dylan Farrow without Allen’s involvement in the procedure. However, when Dylan finally came to stay with Mia, he took on parental responsibility. Their biological son, Satchel Farrow (later known as Ronan Farrow) was born on December 19, 1987. Allen adopted both Moses and Dylan on December 19, 1987.

In January 1992, Mia discovered nude photos of Soon-Yi, who was 19 or 21 then, in Allen’s home. He was 57. When Mia confronted him, he told her that the photos were taken the day before, around two weeks after they had sex for the first time. Mia and Allen’s relationship ended and Allen later issued a statement claiming that he loved Soon-Yi. They have since married and adopted two children.

Moses spent the majority of his young life at Mia’s household. Speaking to Lax, he has stated that his mother had created an atmosphere “in which I felt the constant need to gain her trust and approval.” He recounted several incidents throughout his childhood when his mother mistreated, shouted, and even hit him. He soon grew more anxious and fearful. By that point, he had taught himself to fight, flee or freeze, often choosing the latter two.

According to Mia, on August 4, 1992, Dylan told her that Allen had sexually abused her in their Connecticut home earlier that day. The incident was subsequently reported to the authorities and Allen sued Mia for the custody of Moses, Dylan and Satchel. While the authorities eventually decided not to prosecute Allen on sexual molestation charges, he was denied the custody of any of the children. In February 2014, Dylan reasserted her sexual molestation claims against Allen in a ‘New York Times’ piece. In response, Allen reiterated his denial of the allegation.

'Start to Finish'

Moses had previously spoken out his views on the matter but they received public attention only after excerpts from Lax’s book were published in the New York Times. He detailed the abusive relationship Mia had with him and the other children and alleged that she coached the children, including Dylan, to speak out against Allen. ‘Start to Finish: Woody Allen and the Art of Moviemaking’ was published on October 3, 2017, through Knopf Publishing Group.

Dylan called Moses’ opinion “insignificant” while Mia responded by saying “It’s heartbreaking and bewildering that [Moses] would make this up.” After severing all his ties with his mother, he reconciled with Allen and Soon-Yi.

Personal Life

Moses attended Siena College, from where he earned his bachelor’s degree and went on to get his master’s from the University of Connecticut. Since 2007, he has been a licensed marriage and family therapist.

Moses is married and has two children.
