Childhood & Early Life

Le’Veon Andrew Bell was born on February 18, 1992, to middle-class African–American parents in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. As a child, he had a keen interest in playing football. He had two brothers, and they all played together. Bell’s brothers also made their respective careers in American football.

Bell attended ‘Groveport Madison High School’ in Ohio, where he played multiple sports. He played football and basketball, apart from running track. He played as a running back for his school football team. He was considered a star player of each of his teams. He made his place in the ‘All-Ohio Capital Conference’ and won several honors as a junior member of the basketball team of his school.

Apart from mastering football and basketball, he also broke several school records in track and high jump. He was an all-around athlete and one of the most popular children in his school.

‘ESPN.com’ considered him as a two-star recruit and listed him at number 211 on the list of the best running backs in the country in 2010. He graduated high school in 2010. Although he was one of the most well-known players in school-level games, he had limited scholarship offers from four universities. He wished to attend ‘Ohio State,’ his home-state university.

Bell’s high-school principal was aware of his talent and believed he deserved a scholarship offer from his favorite university. He reached out to the head coach of the ‘Michigan State University,’ which later offered Bell a scholarship.

An internal trouble of the ‘Michigan State University’ football team led them to look for a running back. Bell received his high-school degree early in 2010 then joined ‘Michigan State’ that spring.

College Career

Bell became a member of the ‘Michigan State Spartans.’ In his freshman season, Bell appeared in 13 games for his team. He scored 107 carries and 8 touchdowns, which was an exceptional performance. He ended the debut season with 844 all-purpose yards. Several sports journals appreciated this performance, and he became a state hero in Michigan.

He continued to perform brilliantly in his sophomore season, too. He was soon in demand and decided to skip the senior season and registered himself for the ‘NFL Draft.’

Professional Career

After a highly successful term in college football, Bell was expected to be selected in the second or third rounds of the selections. By then, he had been considered as the fifth-best running back by ‘NFLdraftscout.com,’ which was a bankable portal. In addition, sports analyst Bucky Brooks hailed Bell as the best running back overall. Bell was also invited for the ‘NFL Combine’ and practiced with some of the best players in the country.

The ‘Pittsburgh Steelers’ selected him as the 48th overall player in the second round. Thus, he became the second running back to be selected in that season. In June 2013, the ‘Steelers’ signed a contract with him that bound Bell with them for the next four years.

In September 2013, Bell appeared in his first professional game. It was against the ‘Minnesota Vikings,’ and Bell scored 2 rushing touchdowns and 4 receptions. In a December 2013 match against the ‘Cleveland Browns,’ Bell set a new record for total yards after running for 1,259 yards. In the process, he broke the rookie record that was previously set by football legend Franco Harris.

His rookie season was highly successful. He ended the season with 860 rushing yards, 244 carries, and 8 rushing touchdowns.

Bell began the 2014 season as a starter for his team and aided his team in scoring a victory against the ‘Cleveland Browns.’ By the end of a few more games that season, he became his team’s first running back to run 100 yards from scrimmage in seven consecutive games. His stellar performance against the ‘New Orleans Saints’ in the last week of November 2014 earned him the honor of the ‘AFC Offensive Player of the Week.’

He finished yet another successful season and averaged 4.7 rushing yards per carry. By the end of the season, he was named to the ‘Pro-Bowl’ and his fellow players ranked him at the number 16 on the ‘NFL Top 100 Players of 2015’ list.

In the first few games of the 2015 season, Bell was kept out of the team. This was due to a suspension for being apprehended for possession of marijuana. Following a successful appeal, his suspension was reduced to just two games.

In November 2015, he suffered an injury. He had injured his medial collateral ligament (MCL), and his name was lifted from the rest of the games in the season. He underwent a successful surgery and returned on the field in the 2016 off-season.

Toward the beginning of the 2016 season, he was suspended again for substance abuse. He returned to the field in October. In a December game against the ‘Buffalo Bills,’ he set a new record of 38 carries and scored 3 touchdowns.

By the end of the season, he was ranked at number nine on the list of the ‘NFL Top 100 Players of 2017.’ In the sixth week of the regular season, he was named the ‘AFC Offensive Player of the Week.’ He ended the season with a league-high of 321 carries and 9 rushing touchdowns, along with 2 receiving touchdowns.

In 2017, he launched himself as a musician, with the stage name “Juice.” He released his debut 16-song album on ‘SoundCloud.’ His songs ‘Target’ and ‘My Side of Things’ became particularly famous, as they reflected his turbulent football career.

Personal Life

Le’Veon Bell is a highly religious man and has two verses from the ‘Bible’ inked on his body as tattoos.

In August 2014, Bell and one of his teammates were apprehended for possession of marijuana. Bell received 15 months of probation.

Bell has dated several women throughout his career. One of his ex-girlfriends, Jourdan Taylor, once posted a video on social media, explaining her bitter break-up with Bell.
