Who is Freddie Wong?
Freddie Wong, or simply FreddieW to his friends and colleagues, wears many hats as a successful professional including that of a filmmaker, YouTuber, gamer, visual effects (VFX) artist, and musician. Freddie achieved widespread acclaim for the first time as a competitive gamer when he participated in ‘World Series of Video Games’ competition held in Dallas where he stood first in the ‘Guitar Hero 2’ contest in July of 2007. Hugely inspired by the stupendous success, Freddie started uploading gaming videos on YouTube that became very popular largely because of their sardonic content. He also constituted a rock band ‘Helanor Brozevelt’ in 2007 that was exclusively devoted to video games. Wong’s career received a big boost when he co-founded a production firm ‘RocketJump’ along with Desmond “Dez” Dolly and Matthew Arnold, in 2010. Freddie uploaded ingeniously crafted videos on YouTube (via the ‘RocketJump’ channel) that went viral, notching up more than 1 billion views. He also played a stellar role in launching the prime web video series ‘Video Game High School’. Freddie Wong was also actively involved in the founding of two other YouTube channels, ‘BrandonJLa’ and ‘Node’ under the banner of RocketJump. The fact that Freddie Wong as a youngster had made up his mind to excel as a filmmaker and a VFX specialist is evident from his choice of major in graduation. Wong earned his graduation degree from the ‘School of Cinematic Arts’ affiliated to USC (University of Southern California). Wong was instinctively drawn towards the realm of gaming and the concomitant technologies that allowed the game designer to create hi-tech and realistic video games typified by multiple animation effects.
Freddie attempted to put his gaming skills to the test when he entered his name in the ‘Guitar Hero II’ contest staged in Dallas, in 2007, and endorsed by ‘World Series of Video Games’. His rendition of a single originally sung by ‘Freezepop’ was adjudged as the best and he was declared the winner in the completion. This accomplishment inspired Wong to upload humorous and engrossing video games on YouTube frequently as well as encouraged him to form ‘Helanor Brozevelt’—a rock band oriented around gaming—in the year 2007.
Wong took part in a nationwide quest for the topnotch ‘rock band’ team with his newly constituted ensemble, playing at ‘Hard Rock Café’ in New York.
