Who is Doug Ducey?
Doug Ducey is the 23rd Governor of the state of Arizona. Belonging to the Republican Party he succeeded Governor Jan Brewer who could not contest the 2014 election due to term limits. Ducey overcame the challenge posed by seven other Republican candidates in the party’s primary nomination and also overtook opponents like Democrat Fred Duval, Libertarian Barry Hess and many other candidates from other parties. His stated mission is to make the state of Arizona the best state in the country to live in, do business in and to get the best education from. He had inherited the governance of the state with a budget deficit of almost $1 billion dollars which he had been able to overcome. He is committed to economic growth, creation of jobs, promotion of educational excellence, restoration of fiscal responsibilities and the protection of all the people living in the state. His vision is to make Arizona a strong state which ensures that there is ‘Opportunity for All’ and he has pledged to work hard every day of his governorship to convert his vision into reality.

Childhood & Early Life
Doug Ducey was born Douglas Anthony Roscoe, Jr., in Toledo, Ohio, USA on April 9, 1964. His father was Douglas Roscoe, Sr., a former member of the ‘Toledo Police Department’ and his mother was Madeline Scott.
His parents got divorced and in 1975 his mother married businessman Michael Ducey who adopted Douglas Roscoe, Jr., and his siblings in 1976.
He moved to Tempe in Arizona and joined the ‘Arizona State University’ as Douglas Ducey after legally changing his name to his adopted father’s name. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance in 1986 from this university.
Career
Doug Ducey worked at a local ‘Anheuser-Busch’ distributor Named ‘Hensley & Co.’ which was owned by the family of Cindy McCain during his college days.
After obtaining his B.S. in Finance he worked in the sales and marketing division of ‘Proctor and Gamble’, a consumer products conglomerate.
His training on management while working with ‘Proctor & Gamble helped him to become a partner and CEO of an ice cream chain named ‘Cold Stone Creamery’. He and his business partner sold the chain to Kahala in 2007 which by that time had 1,400 outlets in all 50 states and 10 countries.
He became a lead investor and served as the Chairman of the board of ‘iMemories’ which was a digitization service provider and a film editing company. He worked with this company from 2008 to 2012.
He served as the 32nd State Treasurer in the Arizona government. He was elected to this post on November 2, 2010, assumed office on January 3, 2010, but did not seek reelection in 2014. Instead he ran for the Governor’s post in this election. His term as Treasurer ended on January 5, 2015, on the same day that his gubernatorial inauguration ceremony took place.
He was elected as the Governor of Arizona on November 4, 2014 and sworn into the office on January 5, 2015.
In February 2015 Diane Douglas, the ‘State Superintendent of Schools’ fired two employees of the ‘Arizona Board of Education’ named Christine Thompson and Sabrina Vazquez who had campaigned for the elimination of ‘Common Core’ standards from the school curriculum in the state. Ducey intervened on their behalf and they were reinstated in their jobs.
On March 30, 2015, Ducey vetoed a bill that allowed the law enforcement Agencies to withhold the names of police officers who had been casualties or had died due to gun-related incidents for two months after the incident had occurred.
In April 2015 he took two decisions supporting the rights of gays in Arizona. He vetoed the bill that would give the child safety officials the power to deny adoption rights to same-sex couples. In the second decision he ordered the ‘Arizona Department of Child Safety’ to restore the right to adopt and foster children to LGBT couples who were legally married. He also fired the director immediately after issuing the instruction.
After the terrorist attacks in Paris on November 13, 2015, in which more than 129 people were killed by the ISIS terrorists posing as Syrian refugees, Ducey strongly opposed and immediately halted the resettlement of Syrian refuges in Arizona stating that it was dangerous for the Americans.
He has served as a President of the Arizona chapter of ‘Young Entrepreneurs’ Organization’ and the ‘Greater Phoenix Economic Club’.
He has been a ‘Regional Board Member’ for ‘Teach for America’, an advisory board member for the ‘Pat Tillman Foundation’, and also a board member of ‘Arizona State Charter School Board’, ‘Thunderbird Charities’, ‘Phoenix Zoo’, and the Arizona chapter of the ‘Young Presidents Organization’.
He has also been a former member of ‘Greater Phoenix Leadership’, a CEO for ‘Forum and Enterprise Network’, and a co-Chairman of ‘Sojouner Center Capital Campaign’.
He was a board member of the ‘Catholic Community foundation for the Diocese of Phoenix’ and is currently one of the members in its ‘Board of Directors’.
He is a trustee for the ‘Arizona State University Foundation’ and currently serves on the board of the ‘Banner Health Foundation’ and ‘St John’s Jesuist High School Council’.

Doug Ducey received the ‘2002 Spirit of Enterprise Award’ on behalf of the ‘Cold Stone Creamery’ from the ‘Center for the Advancement of Small Business’ at a function held at the ‘W. P. Carey School of Business’ of the ‘Arizona State University’.
