David Wayne Spade is an American actor, comedian, and television personality. He became popular in the 1990s as a cast member on Saturday Night Live in which he created character sketches, parodied celebrities and movie-stars and contributed material for Dana Carvey to perform. During this stint on the SNL, he became a close friend of Chris Farley and acted in a couple of commercially successful films with him. Next, he played the central character in movies, which however was not successful. Then the sitcom ‘Just Shoot Me’ happened which ran for seven seasons and his portrayal of Finch earned him Golden Globe nominations. He went on to host award shows and also lent his voice to several animation characters. He was also part of the cast of Eight Simple Rules and Rules of Engagement. He hosted this own show on Comedy Central called, The Showbiz Show with David Spade, which was designed o be similar to his “Hollywood Minute" segment on SNL. His nasal high pitched voice and his use of cutting and sarcastic one liners and his sometimes childish stage personality have become his trademarks.

Childhood & Early Life

Spade was born on July 22, 1964 in Birmingham, Michigan, to Judith J., a writer and magazine editor, and Wayne M. Spade, a sales representative. His brothers are Bryan and Andy Spade.

When he was four, the Spade family moved to Scottsdale, Arizona. He attended Saguaro High School and Scottsdale Community College, before transferring to Arizona State University and graduated with a business degree in 1986.

He was also a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and performed standup at the university's long-running sketch comedy show, Farce Side Comedy Hour, on numerous occasions.

Career

With the help of friend and fellow comedian, Dennis Miller, Spade joined Saturday Night Live in 1990 as a regular cast member and writer. He got noticed for his impersonation of celebrities.

His sketches of a flight attendant who says a seemingly unpleasant Buh-Bye to disembarking passengers, a receptionist for Dick Clark and the sarcastic "Hollywood Minute" reporter were all super-hits.

He stayed with SNK till 1996 and wrote materials which were used by Dana Carvey to perform on the show. He has occasionally returned to the show to host episodes.

Tommy Boy, a 1995 road comedy, starred him with former SNL cast mates and close friend Chris Farley. It is about a socially and emotionally immature man who learns about friendship and self-worth.

He starred with Farley in Black Sheep, a 1996 comedy film.

He played the title character of Joe Dirt in the 2001 adventure comedy film alongside Dennis Miller and Christopher Walken. The film was a moderate commercial success but received negative reception from critics.
