Dana Loesch is an American radio host, television host, political analyst, National Rifle Association (NRA) spokesperson, and author, best recognised as a conservative political commentator. Raised as a Democrat, her early marriage to staunch Republican Chris Loesch, along with her take on Bill Clinton-Monica Lewinsky affair, gradually led her rightward and she became conservative following the September 11 attacks. Childhood & Early Life
Dana was born Dana Eaton on September 28, 1978, in Missouri, US. She grew up in an extended family of Southern Baptists under the guidance of her mother, Gale.
She completed her high school graduation from ‘Fox High School,’ Arnold, Missouri, and then enrolled at the ‘St. Louis Community College’ at Meramec. Later she transferred to Webster University and pursued journalism on a scholarship. An unplanned pregnancy forced her into an early marriage and she had to drop out of college.
She had a Democrat tilt since her growing up days, but her perspective gradually changed rightward thanks to her marriage with staunch Republican Chris, and the infamous affair of Bill Clinton with Monica Lewinsky.
She embraced the ideology and political philosophy of American conservatism following the September 11 attacks. Today, she is counted among the prominent conservatives of the US.
Career
Following a stint at the Webster University, she started writing investigative news articles for the monthly periodical ‘St. Louis Magazine,’ published in St. Louis, Missouri.
She also came up with her website ‘Mamalogues’ and let it run by a major St. Louis newspaper, ‘St. Louis Post-Dispatch,’ as a weekly column. It won her ‘Best Newspaper Columnist St. Louis 2007’ award from the St. Louis, Missouri, based weekly newspaper ‘Riverfront Times.’
In 2008, she began to host her radio show, which evolved as a syndicated, daily show titled ‘The Dana Show: The Conservative Alternative’ on the American radio network ‘Radio America’ that specialise on talk programming aligned to conservatism. It was broadcast through the commercial radio station KFTK-FM in St. Louis, Missouri.
She was selected among ‘Top 30 Under 30’ by ‘St. Louis Business Journal’ in July 2008. According to Nielsen ratings, she ranked among the ‘Top 50 Most Powerful Mom Bloggers.’
She joined hands with Bill Hennessy and co-founded the ‘St. Louis Tea Party’ in 2009, but left it in December 2011.
The far-right American opinion, news, and commentary website ‘Big Journalism,’ founded by American conservative commentator Andrew Breitbart, inducted Loesch as editor-in-chief in October 2010. While there she helped break the sex scandals of the then Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from New York's 9th district Anthony Weiner. She worked there till 2012.
Meanwhile, she was appointed a political analyst by CNN in February 2011, with regard to its coverage of the 2012 election.
Through her show, on January 2012, she spoke in support of the action of videotaping of the U.S. Marines urinating on the dead bodies of Taliban fighters mentioning “I'd drop trou and do it, too. That's me though. I want a million cool points for these guys (Marines). Is that harsh to say?"
The American non-profit news media watchdog ‘Accuracy In Media’ bestowed her with the Grassroots Journalism award in 2012. The same year, she was also included in the Talkers Magazine’s list of top 100 "heavy hitters."
Following the demise of friend and mentor Andrew Breitbart, in December 2012, she instituted legal proceedings against parent company of her ex-employer Breitbart.com.
In 2013, she worked as host of an annual political conference called the ‘Conservative Political Action Conference’ (CPAC), which saw participation from conservative activists and elected officials from around the US.
Following the murder of British Army soldier, Fusilier Lee Rigby, on May 22, 2013, Loesch got entangled into a series of heated exchange with British journalist and television personality Piers Morgan on Twitter.
Morgan then swore to ban Loesch from his CNN aired talk show ‘Piers Morgan Live.’ The producers, however, thrived in their effort to amicably settle the differences between the two following which Loesch made her comeback to the show in January 2014.
She came up with her new daily TV Show ‘Dana’ on January 10, 2014, on the American conservative news and entertainment network ‘TheBlaze,’ created by talk radio personality Glenn Beck. In November 2017, she left the position. She features as guest host of Beck, and also of other famous American radio hosts, including Michael Savage.
The St. Louis based radio station ‘KFTK-FM,’ which originally aired her show, dropped it in 2016. It was taken up after a while by WSDZ-AM. That year, she endorsed junior US Senator from Texas, Ted Cruz, as a candidate for the Republican nomination for the President of the US in the 2016 US Presidential election.
She has penned down two best-selling books namely ‘Hands Off My Gun: Defeating the Plot to Disarm America’ and ‘Flyover Nation: You Can't Run a Country You've Never Been To.’
