Brad Falchuk is an American television screenwriter, director, and producer who is famous as the writer of the popular television anthology series ‘American Horror Story’. Falchuk co-created the popular show along with Ryan Murphy. It runs like a miniseries each season with a different set of actors and storyline. Beginning his career as a writer for the TV shows ‘Mutant X,’ ‘Earth: Final Conflict,’ and ‘Veritas: The Quest,’ he clinched the first major project of his career when he was hired to work on the first season of the medical drama series ‘Nip/Tuck.’ Falchuk has also co-created the American musical comedy series ‘Glee’. The series earned him two American Film Institute (AFI) awards in the early 2010s and numerous other award nominations. Falchuk has written as well as directed many other television shows like ‘Scream Queens.’ A Republican by heart, Falchuk co-founded the arts education nonprofit ‘Young Storytellers’ that operates primarily from Los Angeles.

Career

Brad Falchuk started his career in the television industry as a scriptwriter. His first project was the science fiction television series ‘Mutant X’ in 2001. He wrote the script for the episode ‘Meaning of Death’. He also wrote the scripts for five episodes of the Canadian science fiction television series ‘Earth: Final Conflict’ between 2001 and 2002. In 2003, he wrote one episode of ‘Veritas: The Quest’.

He was then hired by Ryan Murphy, the creator of American medical drama series ‘Nip/Tuck’, to write the scripts for the first season of the show. He and Murphy developed a nice bond and Falchuk took over bigger roles in the show. He worked as a co-producer in the 2004 and 2005 season. Later, he took up the role of an executive producer in the show as well as directed four episodes between 2007 and 2009.

Falchuk and Murphy decided to work on a different kind of genre after the successful completion of ‘Nip/Tuck’. They assisted Ian Brennan in his hour-long script of a comedy show based on a glee club for the Fox Broadcasting Company. After the show turned out to be a success and received praise, the trio decided to convert it into a television show. The resultant series, ‘Glee,’ was a huge success and Falchuk, along with the two others, received two Writers Guild of America Award nominations for Best New Series and Best Comedy Series. Falchuk also won two AFI Awards for TV Program of the Year in 2010 and 2011 for ‘Glee’.

Falchuk’s next big project was also with Murphy. The two decided to create the anthology series ‘American Horror Story’ which premiered in 2011. The show was an instant hit as it received 17 Primetime Emmy Award nominations just after the first season in 2012. The second season brought 15 nominations and the third received 17 nominations. Falchuk wrote the scripts for the show and was nominated for Outstanding Writing for a Miniseries or Movie three times. He then co-produced the ‘American Crime Story’ and the horror-comedy anthology series ‘Scream Queens’.

Personal Life

Brad Falchuk was born in 1971 in Newton, Massachusetts, to Nancy Falchuk and Kenneth H. Falchuk. His mother was the president of the American Jewish women's organization ‘Hadassah’ and his father was a professor at the Harvard Medical School as well as the founder cum chairman of Best Doctors Inc.

Brad and his brother Evan Falchuk grew up in Newton. Falchuk went to Beaver Country Day School and later attended AFI Conservatory. He enrolled at the Hobart and William Smith Colleges and graduated in 1993. Falchuk suffered from undiagnosed dyslexia. An athletic boy, he played several sports like baseball and basketball.

He later founded the arts education nonprofit company ‘Young Storytellers’ and currently serves as one of the members of the advisory board of directors. He married television producer Suzanne Bukinik in 1994 and together they have two children named Brody and Isabella. The couple ended their marriage in a divorce in 2013. Falchuk started dating actress Gwyneth Paltrow in 2014 and recently the couple revealed that they were engaged.
