Andrew Luck - Football Players, Timeline and Family

Andrew Luck was born on September 12, 1989, in Washington DC, US. His father, Oliver Luck, is a former ‘Houston Oilers’ and ‘West Virginia University’ quarterback. Oliver has worked in London and Frankfurt as the general manager of two ‘World League of American Football’ teams. Thus, Andrew Luck spent most of his early childhood in England and Germany. In 2001, Oliver Luck was appointed as the head of the ‘Harris County-Houston Sports Authority.’

Andrew Luck is the eldest of the four siblings in the family. His younger siblings are Mary Ellen, Emily, and Addison. His mother’s name is Kathy (née Wilson) Luck. He played ‘Pop Warner’ football and attended ‘Stratford High School.’ During his senior years, he was ranked as the fifth-best prospect in Texas and one of the nation’s top 50 high-school players. Luck was good at academics, too, and graduated as the school’s co-valedictorian.

Luck had athletic scholarship offers from many universities, but he chose ‘Stanford University’ for its academic brilliance and for its new head coach, Jim Harbaugh, a former ‘NFL’ quarterback. Luck graduated in June 2012, with a BA degree in architectural design. He was honored with the ‘Al Masters Award’ for his athletic performance, leadership, and academic achievements.

From 2008 to 2011, Luck played for Coach Harbaugh’s (and later, Coach David Shaw’s) ‘Stanford Cardinal’ football team. He “redshirted” in 2008 and joined the team as a quarterback in 2009. He helped his team win key matches against high-ranking teams and secure a berth in the 2009 ‘Sun Bowl.’ However, he could not play in the game due to a finger injury that he had sustained in a game against ‘Notre Dame.’ During the season, he scored 2,929 yards of total offense, which was fifth-highest in ‘Stanford’ history.

He was selected to the ‘All-Pac-10 First Team’ and was named the ‘Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Year.’ With his 3,791 yards of total offense and 32 touchdown passes, he broke many previous records in the season. In 2011, he boosted ‘Stanford’s’ ranking to number seven and secured a berth in the ‘Fiesta Bowl.’ He was the fourth player to be a ‘Heisman Trophy’ finalist for two consecutive years. Luck won the ‘Maxwell Award’ and the ‘Walter Camp Player of the Year Award.’ For the second time, he received the ‘Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year.’ He was also named to the ‘First Team All-Pac-12’ for the second successive year. He surpassed ‘Stanford’s previous records and his own records in the game statistics. He also received the 2011 ‘Academic All-America of the Year’ award.

Owing to his excellent performance in the previous season, Luck was considered as the number one pick for the 2012 ‘NFL Draft.’ He was selected first overall by the ‘Indianapolis Colts.’ Luck became the fourth ‘Stanford’ quarterback to be selected first overall.

During the 2012 season, he scored the highest number of wins (eight) by a rookie quarterback drafted first overall, in ‘NFL’ history. In December 2012, Luck reached the season’s passing yards total of 4,183 and broke the record of the highest number of passing yards in a season by a rookie (the previous record being 4,051).

In the 2013 season, he achieved a 14–6 record through his first 20 games, matching the past record of John Elway (a quarterback selected first overall). He helped the ‘Colts’ win 23–7 in a match against the ‘Kansas City Chiefs.’ In January 2014, he again led the ‘Colts’ in a playoff game against the ‘Kansas City Chiefs.’ His team made a historic comeback after falling back by 28 points. Toward the beginning of the 2015 season, he missed the first two games due to a shoulder injury. He did play and win a few games, but during a winning game against the ‘Denver Broncos,’ he suffered a lacerated kidney and a partially torn abdominal muscle. The recovery took longer than expected, and he could not play for the rest of the season.

Luck returned to the game in the 2016 season and earned the ‘AFC Offensive Player of the Week’ honor in a match against the ‘New York Jets.’ He missed a game due to a concussion. He also underwent a shoulder surgery after the completion of the season. He could not participate in any game during the 2017 season, as he was recovering from the surgery. He then traveled to Europe for additional treatment and then to Los Angeles for rehab sessions with a throwing coach.

In 2011, Luck won awards and honors such as the ‘Maxwell Award,’ the ‘Walter Camp Player of the Year Award,’ the ‘Academic All-America of the Year,’ and the ‘Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year.’ He was a ‘Heisman Trophy’ runner-up for two years and was named to the ‘All-Pac-12 First Team.’

During his professional career, he established many new records. He earned ‘Pro Bowl’ selections for three straight years, from 2012 to 2014, and was also named the ‘AFC Offensive Player of the Week’ in these three years. Luck was the ‘NFL Passing Touchdowns Leader’ in 2014. He was named the ‘AFC Offensive Player of the Month’ for November 2014. He has also made a number of records during his college football career.
